I started spiriva respimat yesterday. I have 2 questions. How soon after taking it does one start to feel the improvement in breathing. Is it the same as the handihaler .

Thanks for replies. Barbara

Sorry, I don't take either of those meds, but I'm sure someone will be along soon who can answer your question, Barbara.

Probably none. It suppose to relax muscles. Expensive rubish

Hello Colours23. Just because you have not benefited from something you should not dismiss it as expensive rubbish. For many people with copd Spiriva is a very effective long-acting bronchodilator. It has also recently been approved as an add-on for asthma. But it does not work for everyone.

Batbara, hello. Both respimat and the handihaler contain the same drug tiotropium. The only difference as far as I know is that handihaler is a powder and respimat is a spray. Robin

Edit - I forgot to say that the manufacturers website reckons it starts to work straightaway but does not reach full effect for 2 weeks. I hope you see an improvement. Robin

Hi Batbara I'm on Symbicort 200 and Spiriva Handihaler and I find the Spiriva good for me.

Hi Barbara,I was changed from the respimat to the handihaler but I,m. Not sure why,it was just after a hospital stay for exacerbation. To be honest I did,nt notice any difference. These things usually take about ten days to settle and work to full force.D.

I have taken Spiriva response for a year now and found it works well for me. I think it began to take effect very quickly and I like it as it doesn't leave any powdery remains on your tongue. Hoping it works well for you barnowl

I started on Respimat, then got a call from my practice nurse (in charge of my lung condition) to say BLF had requested patients using it were changed to Handi Haler, and I now use that. Can't say I noticed any difference, except the HH is easier for me to use.
