When I get a chest infection it is alway with the HIB bacteria, usually Doxycycline taken for two weeks rids it ,this time two weeks of Doxycycline plus another two weeks of Amoxicillin still hasn't gone had results of sputum test yesterday saying I've still got Hib.My gp has given me another two weeks of co trimoxazole. What is bothering me is on line it says that co trimoxazole is resistant to the HIB bacteria, this is making me think not another two weeks antibiotics that are not going to work ,would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this or has anyone else has this med for HiB

It sounds as if quite a few antibiotics become resistant so don’t always work. Hoping the doctor can find something to help you.

Take care Alice xxxx

Hi i had exactly the same as you back and forth for nearly 3 years doing what your doing. Doctor referred me to the hospital had spirometry tests they were bad. Xray revealed white mass in left lung which was HIB. Only thing that got rid of mine was 9 months of taking azythromycin 500mg 3 times a week. Now im free of that dreaded bug. Was the only thing that worked. It is now on my notes if i ever get it again. Hope this helps you. Karen. Xxxx

Has your strain of H flu been tested recently ? If so ,what results did it show .? Has it become resistant ? My memory is letting me down now, and have been retired from all that for 25 yea rs so I am completely out of touch with antibiotic resistance but found out recently that my hospital acquired UTI was treated with combination of two antibiotics together giving spectacular results .the drug i would have chosen has the same two name constituents under a diffent trade name and appparently has been discontinued due to some adverse effects so I was told . I havent had that confirmed though . Probably cheaper I suspect . Thats life.!

3 years ago I was given Coamoxicillan to knock out haemophilus- stronger than Doxi I was told. I don't know what the situation with antibiotics is now. but good luck in getting rid of this horrid, persistent bug. xxx
