Lung reduction surgery,

I had an appointment at the hospital yesterday and was told I have holes in my lungs top and bottom and was offered lung reduction surgery. Has anybody had any experience of this, as I am pretty worried also been told to get as fit as possible. I am starting pulmonary rehab on Tuesday but even have trouble walking to the car. I would be so grateful for any advice or help. Best wishes to all

A friend of mine had this for scarring of her lung due to repeated pneumonia bouts. She had half a lung removed. She was in hospital for about a week and was sore and weak for around 6 weeks afterwards. She says she is so glad she had it done as she now feels much better. She was left with a big scar which is fading. She tells people it is a shark bite :) Good luck with it. xx

A think ya very lucky as can inprove ya life ,. Been a few on here in time av been on here and have done well.

Sure there are risk but is there not risk with everything we do ... even crossing a road is risky business these day's

Have try keep things in persective i.e posatives v negatives

My own view in early days of my condition was i would not have it done .. but now a know how real lung diease is and am nocking on the door a think i would now.

But i dont have to worry about that now as my doc's have said its to dangerous for me given state of my lungs so its not a option for me.

Yep i worry to as i know exaclty what that means for me ..

I had a lobectomy aged 18, over 40 years ago, due to a collapsed lung and chronic exacerbations. I felt and feel so much better since the operation. Although the lung capacity is reduced the health of the lungs is much improved, but at the end of the day it has to be your decision, I wish you well.

That's what my friend said Sukee. She had it done in her mid 30's. Even though she only has 1 and a half lungs she is incredibly fit and active and walks up and down hills with no problems. x
