Hi John, I have done what you have probably done, been through all the scans and stress tests etc. Been looking forward to surgery after getting the OK from all the tests. Because of the present situation, my pre op appointment was switched to a phone call. I was told out of the blue that the operation will not go ahead because they thought it was too risky. I pointed out that the tests had all gone very well and l had it in writing that l am a prime candidate. The person on the phone that l had never met, suddenly changed tack and said the NHS have withdrawn finance. I said I would go for the valve placement procedure then. I was then told the NHS have withdrawn finance for valve placement procedure as well. Could you please let me know your age John. I'm wondering if age is a barrier, I am 71.
Similar situation for me. All looked good but just been told MDT turned me down for operation. I'm 70 years old by the way.
Good morning. I have had lvrs on both lungs and feel so much better for it. I know it's not a cure but I would encourage anyone to have it if offered
Good luck

Hi John, I was lucky enough to be one of the few suitable to have this procedure and to be frank was quite frightened at the prospect! However it turned out really well - just did as I was told. Much love to you xx
Hope all goes well for your operation.

I would like that to happen to me. How easy/difficult is it for the doctor/specialist to get it done?

Hi I had LVRS on October 8th 2018 with great results .I am almost 73 and its given me my life back . My recovery was very quick altho my surgeon said that was down to me . It was 6 week before I could drive and obviously I couldn't do a lot things but slowly and with a positive attitude we got there . Ask your surgeon loads if questions to set your mind at rest . Im sending every good wish for a good recovery . Positive thinking my friend .
Best wishes Babs xx
Hi , I have had LVR on both lungs separate surgeries .
The left lung surgery went well but had a few bro lens afterwards pneumothorax being the main one on removal of the first drain .
The chest drains were uncomfortable but morphine helped
I saw results from the op immediately and was up and walking about within two days and my breathing improved instantly too
My right lung was done just recently with 5 years inbetween , it went like a dream , reduced recovery time both chest drains removed within 4 days and although the condition of my lungs are very poor ( paper thin according to the surgeon ) I have the same result as the first op I.e less breathless and better exercise capacity . They did have to take a bigger portion of lung this time though
I have severe copd with a 30% lung capacity after the op on a follow up I asked if that was it for me as I am not a good candidate for transplant and he implied that there was more they may be able to do
I felt very safe with my team at st James hospital at no time did I doubt I was doing the right thing by electing this type of surgery
Good luck
Andrea
Hi John. I had lvrs in January. I'm not gonna lie - it was fairly traumatic, physically and mentally. But JEEZ, now, 7 months on, I'm like a new person. At first I regretted the surgery, but you have to give it time. You'll have had your surgery by now, so the worst bit is over. Just do everything they tell you. Of course I can't promise that everyone will get such a great result - and I know it doesn't last forever, but I'm so glad I did it. The plan was to do the right lung when this covid thing is over, but now I'm too healthy to qualify!!!! Hahaha! I wish you luck in your recovery. Oh, and get yourself an exercise bike. I bought a cheap one of eBay for Β£20 and it was a good buy, what with shielding and not being able to get out.
