Hi everyone hope you are doing well last July in the heatwave I became really ill & ended up in hospital. I had pneumonia but to me it felt very weird because I was very hot & the doctors said my heart rate is above 120 & I was given steroids & antibiotics. I was struggling to stay cool & also struggling with what to eat that will keep me energised. How do you all cope with bronchiectasis in the heatwave?

Hot weather & getting nutrition right
Hi Daffodil. I don’t have bronchiectasis but I do have lung disease and my husband also has his problems. During the last heat wave I drew the curtains in all of the rooms ( my husband said that our neighbours would think that one of us had died😁) I did this the night before the heatwave was expected. I turned on the air purifier in the room we were sitting and used the one in the bedroom at night. Once the sun had gone down I opened the bedroom window slightly.
Food wise we ate cold food. Chicken, roast ham, salad that kind of thing. We also made sure we had plenty of cold drinks and ice cream (yummy)
It still got hot, especially in the bedroom.
I doubt/hope we will not get the same extremes this year and no doubt your bout of pneumonia made things a lot worse for you.
Thank you for your reply you made me giggle 😁
I'm sharing a recipe. I will reply to you tomorrow as its late here now 😊😊
Ps if the video doesn't work let me know & I'll write the recipe down for you 😊
The soaked peanut recipe is very cooling so do be careful if you already have a lung problem it may cause problems for you, do add honey so that it doesn't be too cold for you. The weather seems to be cooling down a bit today. Please stay safe 😊😊
Portable air con unit staying in doors when extreme and as much shade as possible, I bought a Portable canopy to go outside my lounge window to help keep cooler.I still take the dog out over a field but leave it until the evening.
As others have said, shading the sunny windows is important. Our house has windows both front and back, and a breeze blows through the house when we open fanlights both sides to let it through. But not all houses are like this, so that may not work for you.
I'm afraid I just did very little last year. This year I will try to do things early before the heat of the day builds up.
Good idea, stay safe 😊😊
