I understand that you guys back in the UK have a little heat at the moment hope you enjoy it even though I know it's probably causing some problems. What your getting at the moment I've been dealing with since February and it's not even at the height yet ππ I have to wait until 7pm , UK 9pm to sit outside and cool down . Should cool down by end October ππππ

Hot weather
Try and stay cool if you can Davey. We have an extreme heat weather warning.π₯΅
It.was.in the late thirties in February and march and got in the fifties in lindos which is at the back of us , it's been hitting the 40s since June so pretty warm here πππ I do everything short of sitting in the freezer to keep cool , can't be around Aircon it plays merry hell with my lungs so rely on fans . πππ But it's a different kind of heat here . Keep cool keep safe
Yes I can only imagine how hot it gets in Greece. You take care xxxπ₯π₯΅π
Easy way to keep cool curl up with the ice-cream and frozen peas π€£π€£π€£π€£
At least you can plunge into the sea!
I can't unfortunately I don't venture far from my varanda these days apart from odd day when a Friend picks me up and pops me down beach for an hour in his car . Walking distance is getting a problem . ππ
Can the heat make a condition worse long term?
I think it depends on the indervidual because when I was in the UK I had plenty of chest infections and regular breathing problems but here even though my condition is terminal I have less infections. So guess it may be different for other people .
Iβm sorry to hear that you are limited. A Greek beach sounds like a fabulous option from Central London. Some people here are behaving as if there is no virus, which is tedious for those of us shielders. Iβm glad you occasionally get to the beach anyway. ππ
I love to just sit look out at the green blue sea and listen to the sounds , so relaxing . Mind you it is nice sat on the varanda looking at the mountains on both sides of me aswell at the moment it sounds like a bloody jungle with the chika bugs in the trees π€£π€£π€£π€£
Good morning Davey1963. Yes I believe it does get very hot over there. Although I have never been. But used to work with a guy who loved holidays there. I seem to remember him mentioning going near Santorini for holidays. Last i heard he had brought land to have a place built over there to retire. Hope you're keeping as well as possible and enjoy your day. Brian
Cheers Brian Santorini is beautiful mind you most of the Greek islands are and full of history . Land is cheap and you can get a house built within a month all you need to do is paint inside . Have a good day brian
You too pal. Not sure what was going on with this ex work mate of mine. He brought an old ruin overlooking the sea and had it knocked down and reuse the bricks to rebuild a bigger place but it had been going on 2 years when I left the company and still not built so not sure pal
Well because of earthquake regulations properties are built from steel and concrete now but it's brilliant how you can see a place be erected in a couple of days once they put all the shuttering up , they cut the windows out it's fascinating to watch . But we do get lots of earthquakes so safety first π€£π€£π
I'm so hoping to get out to Naxos and Schinnousa is September for a month. I feel so much better when I get to Greece, the heat is different but of course not so hot Seot/Oct. I missed it so much last year. Luckily I can take the aircon if apartment gets hot
I can't use Aircon it makes chest tighter , yes air quality better and different type of heat and the rain starts in November here but with climate change all is getting hotter for longer ππ
I was recently diagnosed with mild apical emphysema - due to covid and travel restrictions I have not been able to yet get to a UK doctor. I reside in Malta and heat here is high. I usually sleep with AC. Will this make things worse. I donβt know where else to go for advice
I'm not sure but going on personal experience Aircon does effect me in a bad way and the pulmonologist always turns it off before I go in for my consultation , the first time I couldn't stop coughing and ended up blacking out for a couple of minutes . π Always best to ask your doctor or pulmonologist for their opinion just to be on the safe side.
Hello Davey. Beautiful Greece π My last visits to the mainland were a lifetime ago, stayed opposite Spetses. Travelled from Piraeus by hydrofoil just after sunrise, one of the most magical journeys of my life. First visit (both early June) coincided with a Greek heatwave, roads melting in Athens etc Heat intense but dry. Wonderful wonderful memories ππ
Totally beautiful country Athens is like any city from around the globe but when you get into the small villages and islands it's fantastic a different world , and to look out at beautiful green blue water instead of sluggie brown stuff is lovely . This year as been the hottest but each year is hotter than the last . Global warming , I love when you get the guys coming up the road in their pickup truck with the fish they had caught that morning that fresh and tasty .
Yes I totally agree with you, love seeing the countryside anywhere. Iβm in N Cornwall, beautiful rugged coastline and we can get our locally caught fish delivered, so much tastier fresher etc. Weβre having more and more weird weather. Sadly a sign of the times.
Unfortunately the weird weather isn't going to change. I do love fresh fish I guess it's either a coastal thing or the fact that its here on the doorstep ππ I do like Cornwall . About the only place round the UK where you can see water similar to round here ππ stay safe ππ·
You too π
Well I try to but it's a struggle ππ just checked new covid cases on our island 42 yesterday the results are always a day behind . I can see us going back into lockdown within a week or two . They've already stopped all ferries between the islands . βΉοΈπ·
Stopped the ferries? What about airports.? . There weren't many on the smaller islands when i used to go. O ne holiday the re was problem with air travel in uk. Our pane delayed and then couldnt come because airstrip had no lights! So we had to go on the late Vergina 6 hrs to get to Rhodes. Terrible ferry that was. Went aground I heard later.
Planes are still coming in and out at the moment but cases are increasing on the island at the moment . Our landlord has a holiday apartment at the back of our home we had two Italians in for ten days they left yesterday and last night two polish people came none wearing masks so now we have to be extra careful for obvious reasons . π·π·π·π·
Thatβs not good. Iβm avoiding anywhere crowded. Iβm sure weβll have some kind of lockdown before the autumn. All we can do is do our best to look after ourselves
Well I stay at home apart from appointments , the furthest I go is my varanda it was on the news today that since opening the islands for tourists it appears that the covid cases have jumped and increasing too quickly and we could face going back into lockdown. One of the cases comes from a Brit who visited the UK and returned and even though having the proper checks and already being vaccinated as now tested positive ππ
I know a couple who were double vaccinated and got covid. The wife very mild symptoms but husband was like full blown flu, laid low in bed. Thatβs what worries me
It's a very big worry for us all , seeing people without masks is also a concern .
Iβm Closing Blinds All Day Fan On Cool Clothes Etc Doing HK Wen Kool U Must Be So Very Hot In Greece U Take Care Keep Safe π€π€
It's excruciating between 2 pm and 5pm most folks have a siesta but it is toooo hot for that aswell ππ
You are on an island. What about the meltemi? Dont you get that to cool you down a bit. The islands are always cooler than Athens on the mainland.
Rhodes is the island that always is hotter than anywhere on mainland . Mainland gets snow Rhodes hasn't seen snow in 70years . Rhodes is also called Helios after the sun god . Out of all the islands it's the hottest and has the most sun . πππ
Didn't know what just looked at a few temps and I th ink you are a larger island whereas all my visits were to smaller islands and so would be cooler?
We're right of Crete , let's put it this way two days ago in lindos at three o'clock in the afternoon it hit 61 degrees so it's pretty hot π€£π€£ I checked the thermometer outside the pharmacy when I fetched my Meds and it was saying 43degrees and that was in the shade . One thing we've learnt since being here never listen to weather men they go on an average temp not an actual one pretty much like UK saying beautiful sunshine and it's peeing down with rain π€£π€£π€£π€£
I also live in the middle of England, and sometimes it's too hot. Although, when I was visiting my friend in Los Angeles, I thought that I would die By the way, when I was at my friend's house, his air conditioner was leaking very much. And until he called the specialists, the air conditioner was not working, and it was very, very hot. After all, we English people are not used to such heat, and I would not want to live there for anything! I like the average temperature when you can walk around in a jacket and not worry about cold or hot. In short, I like the climate in England, especially in London. I think I will be moving to London soon because there are more opportunities in the big city.

Sometimes Aircon can cause more problems with lungies than good ππ€£π€£
I agree. It is summer with abnormal heat. I don't remember the temperature rising so high last year. My aunt has a cold in her lungs. It's already hard for her to breathe. Sometimes she goes outside in the evening to get some fresh air, while it's not cool. We have an air conditioner at home, which helps my aunt a lot. When she caught a cold, we had to call the air conditioning service company socool.sg. They explained to us which mode is better to turn on, so my aunt does not get even worse and is comfortable. But still, in the evenings, she goes out on the veranda. She loves to look at her garden very much.
