A week ago, I started noticing blood soaked mucus clots when I cough or sneeze (especially in the morning) I visited a Dr who initially diagnosed this as Acute Bronchitis. He gave me an antibiotic and asked for a CT scan.
CT scan report says normal chest CT scan. I finished my Antibiotic yesterday and today I noticed the same issue after it had diminished for 3 days. I have no other symptoms whatsoever.
Anyone faced the same before?
I am a 32 year old male smoker.

Hi Dudzee. I’m not one of the more knowledgeable gurus on here but it seems to me that if things improved whilst taking the antibiotics and have since regressed then perhaps there is an unresolved infection that may require further treatment. Perhaps it would be a good idea to submit a sputum sample if you can?
Thank you so much for your reply. This is exactly the same impression I got the moment I saw the blood this morning. I am visiting the Dr. tomorrow so I will definitely mention this and see whether he confirms it or suspects anything else.
I have blood most days, often without mucus . I do get clots also, last week I had two lots of large clots that were almost raspberry like made up of lots of little clots . I was given Cipro for 2 weeks which reduced bleeding a little but these clots happened afterwards. I had ct scan just over a week ago so will see if that turns up anything. I don’t have added symptoms either, just my usual, no increased temperature etc .
It is worrying, frustrating and scary. If your ct is normal that’s a positive thing. In your case it may well be unresolved infection.
As others have said talk with your doctor and hopefully a different antibiotic may resolve it, I know that some people with bleeding and increased inflammation find steroids help also.
I hope you find some resolve. Best wishes and take care.
Thank you so much for your reply. Great to hear that your CT scan turned out normal as well. Its a relief to rule out major complexities. My Dr recommended doing another CT scan with contrast dye to take a closer look on the arteries and veins. He said that the CT scan I did last week is normal and does not show any irregularities. My understanding is that the one with contrast dye shows little details that might reveal a problem or confirm the wellbeing of the whole area.
I did a a Pulmonary CT Scan with dye contrast since my chest CT came out normal. The Dr. said that this also normal. He said that there is no reason to suspect that my lungs are responsible for my symptom. He recommended getting my nose, ears and throat checked.
I feel relieved that my lungs are fine. Hope I could discover thr reason for my symptom soon however I read that many cases remain with unknown causes.
