mucus plug

hello,

Not quite 100% why I am on an alternate account but anyway, I was told from the ct scan on my chest that I have a mucus plug on the lower right lobe on that lung, which would explain the wheezing and sob. That’s all I know. Can I clear it myself? If so how? Communication with the people who ordered the ct has been non existent had to find out what it all meant from Google despite me phoning, been left in the dark completely. No one ever phoned about ct results even though the receptionist told me I would be.

Diaphragm breathing and the huffing technique, saline solution in a nebuliser, flutter device such as Aerobika or blowing through a straw into a 1 litre bottle/jug full of water. All supposed to aid lung clearance, you could try and see a respiratory physio who should be able to advise on lung clearance. Word of caution don’t over do it as you can cause lung bleeding

Hi chook, after I went downhill after the dog attic they first tried me on steroids because I had reduced air going into my right lung. I explained to my doctor that I had coughed up 2 roundish rubber feeling hard balls and she said that they were probably mucus plugs that form around the lung. So yes it is possible to get rid of. I was on antibiotics after that and then improved slowly. I would demand answers from them before Christmas even if it's for peace of mind. Have a good Christmas 🎄 😊

I hope you are still making progress. And your dogs are OK. It's good to know that mucus plugs can be got rid if. I'm still struggling to have feelings of peace and goodwill towards those vicious dogs. Nor towards JH's medical team, come to that.xxx

I would be careful and dont overdo it but warm drinks and steam can help. I have a face steamer that i use when all choked up and put a tiny bit of Vicks in to help me breathe, but speak with your gp x

Great advice from everyone. I had been feeling "plugged" for the last few days, it happens from time to time. All the methods above are good, I also drink ginger and lemon tea with fresh ginger grated into it. Works for me! I have rung the surgery before and gone there to use their nebuliser as a last resort. Hope you get rid of it , it's a horrible feeling xx

I can't offer any advice, I'm afraid, because I've never had this particular affliction. I hope the suggestions you've had do some good. The lack of communication from your medical team is shocking. You need to keep on at them, if you can summon up the energy. Perhaps contact the hospital's PALS and ask them politely at first to look into it. Best wishes.xxxx
