After 7 weeks of been told I had lung cancer, after the lung operation where they took out two segments containing the tumors, there is significant signs of a lung disease called ASPERGILLUS. I have active chronic inflammation and fibrosis, fungal stains are positive, surrounding lung shows features of organizing pneumonia and fibrosis scarring. Off for another CT scan on Monday then 6 months of intense treatment of something like an antibiotic. Thank god it's not cancer so im blessed. Have anyone heard of this?

Sounds like you’ve gone the long way round for an accurate diagnosis, but you’re on the right track now....always hard to establish with lung problems.
John, my husband, who took the same route as you, through suspected lung cancer, is still struggling to improve his breathing. The doctors are saying COPD and Bronchiectasis now, with lots of antibiotics, steroids and new inhalers involved.
You now have a firm diagnosis with a clear treatment plan, as I’ve been reading from the helpful links given. I’m just wondering whether I should stop drying my washing indoors over winter now!!

Use a good condensing tumble dryer and avoid those nasty condensation spots that welcome mould like a long lost friend.

By chance, that’s the new one we recently bought! Yippee!
Bought it because no outdoor wall available for a steam outlet, as we’ve had previously.
But because of the cost of running it, I’m tending to dry clothes on the airer, except for towels, sheets etc. I’ll mend my ways now there’s a good reason. Thanks, Skis 🎿💕
So where does the moisture go Skis if it cant go outside?
In a container within the machine Jean,a bit like the soap dispenser on your washing machine and you just pull it out and empty it when the machine tells you or the drying cycle is complete,gosh what an exciting life i lead.

Had the flu in August hence why they did an xray, thats when the two tumors were found. Ahh well 6 months of treatment coming my way, thank god it wasn't cancer, i am so great-full and blessed.
I stopped my wife drying clothes indoors as it is bad for us with copd. Added dampness humidity is not good and aides mould. She now uses a condenser tumble drier. Much better.

I’ve certainly heard of it in dogs - all that rooting and snuffling with their noses around in leaves and rotten wood in the soil so that they can inhale the spores and it gets into their sinuses and respiratory system, not a good thing for those susceptible.
Aspergillus came back as my allergen on tests, so I avoid that type of gardening, and luckily have a fairly dry house with little mould, which I kill off with judicious use of bleach when it starts in a shower, for instance. (Bleach doesn’t agree with my lungs either!). And definitely a tumble dryer to avoid damp washing drying in the house.

Wow! I'm a bit shocked for you. Shocked that they didn't find it sooner.
I've sort of heard of it. Five years ago when I was first 'under investigation' I had some dear neighbour's. I knew that she was under The Royal Brompton in London. On talking to the husband he warned me not to panic if they saw black patches on my lungs and suspected cancer. He explained that aspergillis looks like cancer on scans and was often mistaken for aspergillis. I never forgot that because that was one of the things coming up in my sputum tests.
I'm so glad for you 1968. I was told that aspergillosis is manageable with antifungals. Apparently children and adults with dodgy lungs should stay right away from areas where there are the spores IE compost, damp leaves, farm yards. Animals get it too.

You (and your family) are entitled to breathe..............a big sigh of relief. I know how torturous being told you have lung cancer really is. So in 6 months you will be able to make long term plans once more without all that worry.

Yes I have Cystic Fibrosis and Aspergillus infection is quite common.I have had it and quite often grow it . Anti Biotics and anti fungal treatment would probably be prescribed. Glad to hear you don't have the big C . Must be a great relief.
I never even heard of this until now, i have however read up on it and it's very very common. I have no symptoms.
Aspergillus fumigatus is everywhere but only some with compromised lungs develop aspergillosis. It is treatable but can be nasty. Please read up about it if you can. Though in view of the trauma you have suffered recently, perhaps you need to relax and just enjoy the fact that you don't have lung cancer! The website of the National Aspergillosis Centre based in Manchester is a wonderful resource.
That's really good news. I had the same with a cyst that doctors were 99% sure was cancer - seven weeks later I had massive operation and a week after that I was told the cyst was benign - very happy days. Best of luck to you

Oooooft I've studied up on this and it's shocking, we always dry out stuff inside and use scented candles 😢😢😢😢😢 hospital tomorrow to start my treatment.

Now you know a bit more about what to avoid, you can do all the right things along with your nutrition, exercise and treatments to help stop any further damage and get yourself well again. Don’t be disheartened, nor think you’ve brought it on yourself - it will take a while but you’ll be feeling better before too long. Plus we’re shortly heading back towards the summer months when everything is more manageable anyway!

Glad to hear from you, but the news is not all good I guess other than it is not cancer. Sounds like you have a long hilly road to go before you start to feel better. Hope those on here with this illness can help you . Stay positive I am sure things can only get better for you with the right treatment. Good Luck and Best wishes for a good recovery given time.
