The Doxy could mask any infection but no harm in taking a sputum sample anyway.

I hope the infection goes soon but you may need more antibiotics. Take care xxxx

I would see your doctor and take a sample. Drugs do affect your sample x

Hi Alice, like you I am I my seventies and have just been on two weeks of antibiotics and then a week of steroids. I have taken a sputum test to the GP as still my lungs are full of gunk and I am not sure the infection is gone. I have just made yet another appointment with the GP to make sure my lungs are clear and ask if I should have a chest x ray to see the state of what is going on in my lungs. Can't think of what else to do, so if anyone has any ideas please do suggest things. Hope everything is ok Alice.

Yes you alright to take a sputum sample for testing. If your sputum is green it suggests infection is still present and you need the right antibiotic to clear it. Don't hesitate, go for it.

Hi Alice

You might need to ask your GP or Consultant to change the antibiotic to Amoxicillin .......

Amoxicillin and doxycycline are similar in that they are both drugs that target bacteria, or antibiotics. ... Doxycycline is bacteriostatic: it inhibits the growth of bacteria but doesn't kill them directly. On the other hand, amoxicillin is bactericidal: it directly kills the bacteria.

You could have the same infection that I had Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is hard to get rid of, but maybe Amoxicillin will work for you.

Take care

Hi Alice, I too finished Doxy yesterday and still feel infected. This is quiet normal, antibiotics keep working for a further 2-3 days. I shall wait and see how I feel on Wednesday. Hope you feel better and do not need further antibiotics. Take care, Maximonkey

About your chest infection your right best is to take a sample.
