Some advice regarding meds & pnemonia

Hello again.

I had a few chest infections last year.. the dreaded Haemophilus influenzae.

However my resp team decided to change my inhalers due to the amount of infections. I was on symbicort 400/12 and spiriva. They kept me on symbicort for a bit and introduced incruse eliptia in place of spiriva. I felt a reduction in mucous however the chest infection wouldnt budge it then turned to pnemonia and a chest xray showed this on dec 13th, I dont know if this was caused by the incruse elipta or not. Since december I have had 7 lots of doxy and 2 weeks of clarithromycin and 10 lots of steroids 8x5mg daily. I was then taken off the symbicort and this was replaced with relvar elipta 184/22 in January, this helps with the mucuous etc but Im sure the inhalers are making me ill, I feel unwell everyday, My sputum has lessened but I still wheeze and feel tight in my chest almost daily and still using which i think is a lot of ventolin, at least 3 times a day, and feel wiped out, i dont sleep well either im sure any side effects would have lessened by now surely or at least seen an improvement? I am stage 2 copd and in middle of stopping smoking from 40 cigs down to 4, I cant seem to get over that last hurdle but it has only been 4 days and diagnosis of stage 2 copd 9 days ago.

I will stop smoking I know this is the most important.

I just want to feel a bit more well again at my last ct it showed the pnemonia lessend and I have another ct in 3 weeks to check the pnemonia. (Hopefully this has gone)

I have another exasberation starting once again as been breathless and an increase in sputum past couple of days, scared as I dont want pnemonia back so will call my nurse in the morning, I also have a lot of anxiety at the moment too.

Any thoughts or advice, do you think I should ask to change my inhalers? They want to now start me.on the trelegy,is this wise? If i feel I am having problems with incruse and relvar?

Sorry for the long post and all the questions.

I just feel down and wiped out completely of late.

Hi

I would take a mucus sample in and ask them to test it. Haemophilus is a monkey to shift and can colonise. I was like you on this that and the other ended up after months taking myself to A and E being admitted for ten days IV. Unsure about the inhalers only one has ever affected me but if you are not happy seek help don’t wait. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Andie sorry I didn't get back to you last night ,I was just to tired ,and feeling a bit guilty, all my grand children were here yesterday all three that is two sets of mums and dads ,they are all gorgeous but tired me out ,I did smoke yesterday only less that half that I usually smoke ,it is still my intention to give up, dont no if this is an excuse but because I hadn't thought about it before we decided I felt as if I'd thrown myself in ,you will understand that ,I am rushing to be at hair dressers for half nine ,got my granddaughter later, my sister is taking me for afternoon tea as a belated birthday present, granddaughter will have to come two, she is only four loves her food so she will be delighted ,I hope you aredoing better than I am with the cigs hope so ,your above story is similar to mine ,I read you stories and think this girl sounds like me ,happy Easter to you Andie ,all the best with the cigs ,see you later x

Andie, one step at a time, Rome was not built in a day! Good luck on your journey.

Now, Maths was never my strongest subject at school but here’s my theory. I realised I had been smoking for over 40 years, yup, that old! I would doubt that I’m going to live another 40 years. Am I going to spend the next few years worrying about giving up, am I heck as like. Oddly since I stopped worrying I’m smoking a lot less!!

Hi Angie referring to meds and pneumonia advice I carnt help you there ,like you I'm fed up of this Haemophilis influenza bug ,I get infected with it every six weeks or so last November, October I had to take five pks doxycycline to shift it,I believe it never goes properly ,I was put on Azithromycin three times a week to try and keep infections away ,while on these I had a twelve week run with out infection then four weeks ago I had to come of Azithromycin go back on doxycycline H I agian ,back on Azithromycin agian now ,I've had Pneumonia twice in the past it left me with bronchiecstasis ,I also have mild emphysema, I was on symborcort a couple of years back ,I had to come of it as the cramps in my legs was unbearable I am now on fostair two puffs twice a day also on spiriva, ihave Ventolin also, but find it does nothing at all for me ,I am really sorry to read you have been so I'll with pneumonia, and that you are poorly agian ,get another sputum test done on Tuesday ,and try and rest ,do you have an out of hours surgery, when I'm on prednisolone I carnt sleep at all ,is this the reason why you carnt sleep ,they also reck my stomache ,have you had a ct scan that will tell you what your actual lung complaint is if so what is it , I'm not usually up this time of morning I have my granddaughter in bed with me ,she is such a wriggle no sleep for me ,so I've thought sod it just get up,I'm not referring to cigs until next week although I have cut down, the sooner you get the antibiotics the better ,carnt remember if you said you have rescue ok x

Good Morning Alice (not the actress) lol

I hope you are well this morning?

Well I am doing ok but on my rescue meds, doxy & preds, I am a bit cheesed off as the syn is out and it says on the pack avoid sunlight? How am i suppised to do that, today I am.supposed to be egg hunting with the grandkids lol.

Anyway cut a long story short..This will be my 11 set of anti bs since dec , that 2 sets per month hence why I want to see about the inhaler change, I was never this bad before december, once every 2 month seemed to be my cycle, i hope this is not what is cut out for me now, at least not yet anyway.

I had a ct scan in feb and have another for next month the feb one showed the pnemonia was lurking but not as bad, my sputum is still white at the moment but thickening even with the 5 litres of water i drink per day but this is probably bronchitis, will hand sample in tuesday and my resp team nurse is coming for a visit on wed to go over my concerns. So all is looking good.

I usually cant sleep on preds either but needed last nights sleep , i have my grandaughter today for a sleepover but one of my grandsons is not well so got to avoid him and this pains me so much. Little Germ banks kids lol

How did your lunch go yesterday? Good I hope, I did have cigs last night and have had one this morning,Im sure your doing good, just remember you dont have to explain yourself to me or anyone you do what you can, as I am doing, dont beat yourself up I am here.if you ever need to chinwag, your lovely!

Have a great day Alice
