Relvar and Incruse inhalers.

Hi all, are any of you on Relvar and Incruse which involves one puff of each per day? I have seen the head of the respiratory team who is a professor and he has prescribed these to replace my Spiriva and Seritide, did any of you have side effects using these. The doctor said he wants me to go into hospital for some tests and when I got upset he suggested that I try these inhalers first, but he still wants me to go into hospital after Christmas. I will appreciate any replies. Thankyou

Hi Eireann, been on Incruse 55 and Sirdupla for a year now for copd and it has changed my life for the better by 500%. Hardly use Ventolin and hardly out of breadth, would recommend it to anybody. Don’t recognize any side effects that weren’t there before.

Thanks for that information 2LK, most interesting regarding your Asthma as the doctor thinks I may have it, but I know in my heart I have never had it and that is why I am recluctant to take it. I hope that you get your hip replacement soon.

I was on Relvar for a couple of months before going back to my original medicine. I think possible give it a go for 6 weeks see how you go, it may suit you better, but if you notice problems or that its not working as well as your old med after 6 weeks check back with the doc.

Some people find Relvar really helpful, some meds suit better than other for each individual user.

I have never used incruse so can't offer an suggestions on that one.

Did your doctor say why he wants you to go into hospital again?

If you are in the UK perhaps the doctor just wants you to have a course of intravenous antibiotics. If its been an ongoing infection.

No, my doctor wants to do tests for Asthma and other things, I am not a fan of hospitals and was only in once 12 years ago with double Pneumonia and was diagnosed with Copd. I am not in the UK, I am in Dublin the Republic of Ireland.

I would say its better to know what is happening, and that is what your doctor wants to find out, knowing precisely what is going on will lead toward getting the right treatment for you and hopefully alleviate your symptoms and prevent further progression.

Thanks Bkin, I am worried after being told I am very severe now and find it hard to think positively, but I will try to look at it the way you say as it is better.

Many of us are very severe. I feel it is my duty to do what I must do to remain as well as I possibly can at all times. This means I must meet my disease head on...educate myself, exercise my lungs, take the best meds, remain positive that I can improve, and just be willing to do what I must to make it work. You got this.

I was using these inhalers for about a year and found them excellent, but knew I would only be using them until their update arrived. This was three months ago. It is called Trelegy Ellipta. This has the ingredients of the other two plus one other inhaler (which we would have been using).

Brilliant.

Ask your consultant about this.

I was put on the Relvar and Incruse in June last year to replace the Spiriva and Seratide and have been delighted with them, they help bring up mucus easily and don't need to take ventolin as often. Hope they suit you too. I get no side effects

I have been on relvar and Incruse for nearly 2 year and find them really helpful. I have 3% Asthma as well as COPD so can’t be put on the new 3 in 1 inhaler as it is not for people with asthma.

That’s good to know that they may work for me, how did they find out you have 3% Asthma because the consultant thinks I may have some. Thanks

No never been offered those. Still on Serevent and Alvesco, and nebulising with Ventolin or Salbutamol the generic according to prescription.

Hi Eireann, I tried the Relvar for a few weeks and couldnt adapt, the powder keep getting stuck in my throat and I felt like my lungs were clogged up, am on a non powder form of Seretide at the moment which is helping but has brought my cough back so dont think I will stay on this either, just cant find the right inhaler, but keep trying. I know the thought of being in hospital is haunting but you will get the right diagnosis and be on the correct medication, which will help you in the long run. Hope all goes well for you. Irene x

Hi eireann am on both and have been good for me but I have put a lot of weight on don’t know if it’s them or the amount of steroids I have been taking over the last year due to infections.

I was given Incruse to replace Spiriva about a year ago. I've not noticed any difference in terms of health from the Spiriva. It's less fiddly than those capsules you get with the Spiriva. Downside is that it's a whole lot worse on the oral thrush front. Rinsing out my mouth is not enough. I've had to change my morning routine to brush my teeth straight away (instead of after breakfast) or my mouth becomes very sore. Ive never been given an explanation as to why I was changed on to it. Maybe I didn't ask assertively enough. Is it proven better than Spiriva or just cheaper?

I am being put on these two two new inhalers because I have moved into the very severe stage of COPD, I do not know why you were changed if they did not tell you. Maybe you can ask at your next visit. Thanks Becktig

Yeah, normally I'd have asked about it but for whatever reason I didn't this time. I do find it interesting how being a patient, can make even the most assertive and confident of us compliant and unquestioning at times.

I do not think that I am compliant as such, after hearing bad news it seems like I have no other option but to go with the doctor’s wishes at this time.

Hi---I am on Breo but although I was doing fine my pulmonary doc asked if I was willing to add Incruse. (I have mild/moderate emphysema with some asthma ). I religiously gargle after the Breo and so far (8 months) no side effects except for adding some weight (my doc insists it's not from the meds--too little steroids ). I don't know if the Incruse had any real impact but I'm doing well so I'll continue with both meds.

PS . I have been a tad paranoid about getting thrush. A few months ago , the roof of my mouth was sore , I had a dental appointment and asked my wonderful dentist if she had seen the beginnings of thrush. As she looked at me quizzically , I blurted out "Oh I burned my mouth on coffee the other day--- that's why it's sore".

Hi, I was taken off Seritide ( which had been my miracle inhaler for 20 years and had got to blowing 420 peak flow from 280 ) I was swiped and put on Relvar Ellipta , I started getting chest infections 4 first year then 5 then to the point it was 8 in 12 months, in the end up I said how can I take Relvar when I can hardly breath and cough constantly so asked for my Seritide back and a spacer, I’ve been fantastic ever since. I had been on Seritide from been 27 and it had been fantastic for 20 years god knows why they wanted to swop me ☹️😞😡 for me a spacer and tidal breathing and doing huffing to clear my lungs works well for my Bronchiectasis and Asthma. Relvar would have ended up doing more damage then harm to my lungs.

I was on Relvar and Incruse for three years and they were more successful than Spiriva. Earlier this year I switched to Trelegy Ellipta, which is apparently a combination of Relvar and Incruse. So far, it seems to be OK. I am 72 and have severe COPD but still manage to live a normal life.

I'm on it for a few years with severe asthma. Has worked wonders for me even though typically its used for COPD. I feel so much better. Hope you went ok on the tests.. they are not too bad compared to other procedures.
