I have mixed airways disease, but also severely restricted lung function due to curvature of spine. I'm on atrovent, flixotide and venolin. Use via a spacer. It has been suggested by Brompton that it may help to get my inhalers (not Flixotide) into my lungs more efficiently if I use a nebulisor. Just thought I would ask what people think about this. Does anyone else use a nebuliser constantly
Hi, My name is Chrys and I was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis (a lung disease) two years ago but didn't know I had it for over 14 years. After a scan, blood tests, samples of sputum to be analysed and goodness knows what else my Consultant put me on a twice daily anti-biotic (Colymycin) using a nebulize. I have been using this now for six months and will continue to do so for the moment. I am due for further follow up tests too.
My question to you is what will you be taking using the nebulizer? I have to mix the antibiotic with a Saline mixture. You then fix up the bits and pieces attached to the nebulizer and pour in the solution via a syringe. Switch the nebulizer on and put the mouthpiece in your mouth and inhale for around 10 - 15 minutes. The nebulizer is on loan to me from the hospital. As far as I know will only use it for atrovent and ventolin. I know I can't use if for Flixotide, and drs have not changed my prescription
Hi MisUse, like yourself I also have restricted lung capacity due to severe kyphoscoliosis - was doing fine until after 2 pregnancies & now I’m on bipap during the night and oxy 24/7 & ventolin via spacer when required. No doctor has recommended I use a nebuliser though, probs cos I’ve got quite enough equipment as it is! Good luck with the nebuliser.
Yes i have one at home been using it for nesrly 20 years. It is not something i would reccommend because it is so tying. You have to take it with you if you are out at medication time. Carry it on holiday. It does keep me goingost of the day. More recently i have a small one i take out for emergencies. I use ventolin through mine twice a day. I have a problem at the moment so takong budisonide through the neb.
You also need to keep it very clean. I use a mouth piece. I was loaned a machine once since then i have had to buy my own and the spares to go with it so there is a cost involved.

I have one..Philips Respironics..useful when you feel you have mucus down your chest, helps to loosen and expectorate.
I use it for a course of 2 weeks when I have a bout of bronchitis, budesonide and atrovent, 3 times a day.
Rinse your mouth and throat well..
