Hiya all, I have a nebuliser and the consultant suggested I use it with saline, which I have, but I am never sure how many times a day to use it. Any suggestions?

The consultant should have said. Any instructions with saline? I would imagine twice a day would be fine but check with a doctor it pharmacist. Xxxx

"The usual dose of inhaled hypertonic saline is 4ml twice a day. Some patients get a

marked benefit and don’t require a twice daily dose, and can occasionally reduce to once

daily or as they require it. However, if you feel that your chest is worsening, or you think an

infection is coming on, then go back to using it twice daily. "

Hi 👋

Just saline?

Morning and evening then, not too close to bedtime so you don’t lay flat afterwards..

If you feel blocked up you can use it at lunchtime as well.

Take care.

To be honest, I don't normally use it, but I have had a chest infection for More than 4 weeks, I had 2 weeks on doxycycline, then 2 weeks on clarithromycine plus the usual steroids, but it has just fought back again, not to severe but still a bit congested. I am taking the carbocisteine and thought I would give the nebuliser a go.

Two 2 Sheds

I use my saline first thing in the morning and last thing at night (as prescribed ) just to ease things, but some days I feel very mucusy, and struggle so the odd burst of nebuliser seems to ease breathing a bit....... ....I think common sense has got to prevail occasionally as you are the only one who knows exactly how they feel !!!!

Take Care

Hi there Two2sheds, I use my nebuliser 4 times daily using Atrovent mix with Salbutamol I think you should check with doctor or pharmacist, sounds like you have only recently been put on nebuliser, so be on safe side. Let us know how you get on. ✋️😊

My GP told me every four hours but last year I was so ill I was using it through the night every two hours it was the only thing that got me through a really rough time and this went on for months, it's only the last week I've started to feel a bit better, praying it lasts. Good luck and I wish you well for 2018 xx

I am not at all sure about this but am jealous if you have two sheds.

I would love two sheds.

Hope you get some clarity from more sensible folk.

Nothing that luxurious Phil, both about 12' x 10' and the only old cars are dinky toys. One shed full of garden tools and now an oxygen tank (or, the mother ship, as I call it.)

There’s a lot to be said about the advantages of Dinky toys over full size cars.

A lot easier to park for a start....

I seem to be unusual in that saline actually reduces my ability to breathe by 25% as shown while in Hospital. I use salbutamol in a nebulizer which has been of great help. I have used up to 4 times a day depending on my condition.

I'm not that sure the nebuliser makes me feel that good, it's just to break up the phlegm.

Got to go back to GP later, chest infection still not clearing after 4 weeks of antibiotics.
