I tested positive for Covid 2 weeks ago… it’s caused an asthma flare but luckily I got prescribed steroids for a week which, along with my Fostair and Ventolin inhalers, kept things stable enough for me to stay home.
My GP signed me off for a further week after my 1st week of self certifying, however that has run out today so I am back tomorrow…. Very nervous as I’m still very fatigued, still coughing a little (dry and unproductive though, and helped with inhalers and peak flow isn’t quite my best but not far off) and congested but I can’t get through to anyone at the surgery to extend it, we already have one staff member on long term sick, no one to cover me and my boss has been putting pressure on me to return asap so I can’t really have any more time off!
I just wanted to know what others experiences have been with recovery? And does anyone have any tips to improve the fatigue too haha!
Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences already with me when I originally posted after testing, it’s very much appreciated!
hi, it a tough position to be in and from my experience over 12 months ago there is no quick fix, even though I wasn't overly asthmatic at the time I still felt drained for quite a while especially even gentle exercise, so take your time! Hopefully you have a desk job or something non energetic.
I know that is probably not what you wanted to hear, good luck 🤞
Thank you so much! It’s what I need really, people who have actually been there and know how it feels!
I’m a carer but I only have one client in his own home and he’s pretty easy going! I used to work in a nursery and there is no way I’d be able to do that job right now!
First of all - ignore your boss (easier said than done I know...) You've had a big shock to your system and you're at risk of another infection as your immune system will be run down after Covid and oral steroids can also affect this. I had Covid in March 2020 and it took a while for me to recover as obviously as asthmatics we have a vulnerability in our lungs that other people (including overbearing bosses!) don't have. Take the time you need. I look at this way: a job is temporary, your health is for life, so you need to recover properly especially at this time of year when Covid and Flu are running rife.
Oy I'm so sorry. Recovery after covid is hard. I had it twice and had a lot of fatigue both times that got better after about a month. Can you take it easy over the holidays and get as much rest as possible? How are you feeling now?
Thank you for your reply! That sounds rough getting it twice, glad to hear the fatigue improved though! I’m going to try, lots of family and friends I’m desperate to see but trying to pace myself as much as I can!
Pretty rough and wiped out today, but to be fair I was expecting that after being at work yesterday. Luckily Friday is my day off so I am having a PJ day and just resting, back to work tomorrow though then off Christmas Day and Boxing Day then in every day, exhausted just thinking about it!
