This academic year so far i spent more time in hospital than at uni or home . Been admitted x2 in 3 weeks and was not far from ending up in a and e today at uni.
At the moment my medicines are
Seretide
Salbutamol
Spiriva
Prednisolone
Uniphyllin
Montelukast
Flixotide
Omeprazole
And vit d
And occasional painkiller for chest pain
But the drs keep telling me that theres nothing we can do to help me. Wanted to ask if anyone has different reliever or preventer inhaler that i might be able to try . I tried symbicort but it didnt work for me so we stopped it. Was wondering if there are any other treatment or meds with less side effects others use. And yes the diagnosis is asthma and only asthma for sure (was evaluated by 3 different asthma clinics and been referred to the Brompton but its just so far)

HBOT might be beneficial if you can get to it rather than the Brompton. There is a centre for HBOT at Portsmouth but there might be another nearer to Plymouth operated by the Multiple Sclerosis group. They have a website where you simply type in your postcode to find the nearest centre. Each centre charges different session fees but they do not rob you. I would recommend these services.

By HBOT, you mean hyperbaric oxygen one would take it? Please be cautious making such recommendations especially where you say ""if you can get to it rather than the Brompton."" as this is saying use alternative methods rather than proven recommended safe medical treatment. Hyperbaric oxygen may not be recommended or even advisable for people with asthma.
Not sure which clinics you have been to or what their approaches are. Some doctors when they say there's nothing we can do to help mean they can't do anymore but *it does not mean* no-one else can. Have you had other conditions checked and tested for such as allergies, reflux etc which can exacerbate asthma?
Please try calling the Asthma UK helpline nurses on 0800 121 62 44 if you haven;t already and also have a good look around all the information available on the Asthma UK website (see tabs along the purple bar of every page).
From personal experience and off the top of my head, (some may seem basic but aren't always covered) have things like using a spacer been recommended, do you have a written action plan, have you tried any other relievers than ventolin or other preventers with different steroids and long acting relievers such the newer Fostair combination inhaler? I am sorry to hear that your asthma is so bad. Mine been up and down over the last few years but I am under the Brompton. I would keep your appoinment with them. I know it might be far but they have people coming from all over uk. Also they try to put all your test and appoinments together so you don't have so many hospital appoinments. Asthma team there is the first to know of new treatments. Other hospital might have great asthma deparments but i only been to my local and Brompton.
Hope your appoinment is soon if not try phoning up and see if you can move it forward. Hope you get some help soon.

You sound really fed up, which is understandable, and as if nothing or no one is helping you. I'm on a similar list of meds to you, although I'm not on Pred all the time and do have a few things to help with allergy stuff, and although I might feel that they don't do enough they are definitely helping as I'm sure your meds help you. There are alternatives to seretide like fostair and flutiform, you could add antihistamines and nasal sprays if your asthma is at all allergicy, if it's infection based then long term antibiotics, there are beta2 agonist tablets, zolair and others. You've been referred to RBH so that's a positive move as they'll be able to have a good look at everything and move things in the right direction. I hope you see them shortly and see some improvement soon.

You put some hope back after I lost it. And i have all of those like spacers and was hoping that the gp would change my seretide to something as well as the salbutamol but she will just have to have a discussion. Action plan yes i have one but it only states to go to hospital if i get worse. And yes had it checked by a number of gps, nurses at the gp, and asthma clinics and its only the asthma nothing like allergies, reflux etc. Doesnt look like they will change the inhalers. Dont know why but the drs just dont want to change my inhalers. And at the same time keep ending up in hospital.
