I have hallux rigidus - which means my toes are (almost) rigid and don’t move when I walk. Painful.I use insoles in my shoes and take Glucosamine with Chondroitin. I buy this over-the counter as suggested by podiatrist.

On top, because I have arthritis elsewhere in my body (exacerbated by medication I take to prevent recurrence of cancer) I have a morphine-related patch called Butec. As well, I take co-codamol.

All this means that I can exercise quite well, though painfully, doing 10,000 paces a day.

Hope this helps.

Hello I would agree with Happyrosie , I have similar pain but I am testing GOPO at the moment and find orthopaedic shoes do work well plus insoles. I also have pain from side effects of blood pressure tablets. I have heard Butec is good also. I am limited as other illness can be worsened by varied tablets. Even talking to others can help distract from pain. Its real and very impairing on daily activities, best to try all till you find what suits you I find sprays and gels help keep your joints more subtle , exercise is a case of little and often but don't overdo it no matter which arthritis you have and avoid in cases of gout. Good luck

I have psoriatic arthritis that attacks every stinking tendon in my body (imagine) that pain it’s an insane amount and my feet get it the worse and the only thing that has helped me has been Cosentyx and Otezla (together) alone each suck for pain. You can also try Australian Dream Cream on your feet obviously not a cure but this stuff has helped me deal with my crazy feet pains.

Hi Murphysmummy , sorry to hear that your arthritis is causing you such pain at the moment. If it hurts to walk on your feet at the moment, we'd definitely recommend a number of chair-based exercises to keep your body active, even if you can't walk for long periods. This will also give you something that you can take control over while you wait to begin biologics.

Regular exercise is essential for people living with arthritis as it helps to strengthen the muscles that protect and support the joints. Exercise has even been proven to help reduce the pain of arthritis and improve function.

A number of chair-based exercises can be found here:

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.

It's great to hear that you do still try and walk when you can! It’s important to remember that feeling low or angry from time to time is completely normal when you live with arthritis. Try to be positive about the pain you experience - managing your pain puts you in a position of power!

currently in the same situation - hands and feet! I find heat helps me so I soak my feet in hot water. RA flare ups can be so painful. Hope you get some relief soon
