Hi there. I'm Lesley, 48, I have been in pain with my knees for about three years. Now going downmy shin and into my right ankle more than left. A few weeks ago I asked for xrays of my groin area as the pain from my groin into my thigh has been same for around three years and the doctor kept giving me repeat prescriptions, no answers or tests . The results came back and both my hips are affected, right being severe, as in my pain answered.. Referred me to specialist which appointment came in for two weeks time so very quick.

My annoyance is that the doctor kept fobbing me off and I probably will get more xrays and have the feeling my knees and ankles will be like yourself also damaged. I have put on another stone 13.5 with gabapentin and amatriptiline which haven't even helped with my pain. Any advice or help as we seem to be on same journey

You too. It would be great to go a nice long walk . even going around the supermarket I'm done. In pain then more than normal level. I am going to see the surgeon in two weeks about a hip replacement and its a bit of a shock to realise my bones have deteriorated quite young. I'm prob going to be the same with the knees.

I will be making an appointment though to see my own doctor tomow though as the paracetamol and ibruproven don't help at all, and I want to stop the amatriptiline and gabapentin altogether so to see if there are arthritis meds I can get to help with the daily pain . I hope you get answers too

Good for you, don't settle, your life is to important, if you are not happy with the answers you get then find another doc. or orthoepedic dr. but do stand up for yourself and be heard !

Sorry to hear about your being in pain, I know how frustrating this can be. Since 2013 I have been in constant severe pain in my left knee. After two arthroscopic surgeries, a knee replacement which was botched, then a total knee revision I am still in terrible pain when I walk everyday, sit, move etc. My point being, do everything you can to help yourself , has the doctor mentioned sending you to a specialist, orthoepedic, there are different type shots, cortisone and lubricant shots they can give that might help. Once you have an appropriate diagnosis, I am guessing that the cartilage is wearing out in your knee then you can get treatment to help. Going forward they may suggest physical therapy, medication, shots in the knee. If surgery becomes neccesary make sure you have second opinion and the best surgeon possible. Good luck !

I too have an end stage OA in one hip and bad OA in both knees. Because I am overweight, in my local area, I can't even get an NHS appointment at all. I paid to see a hip specialist a year ago and he refused to operate on me because of my weight and because I am on steroids for PMR- too risky. I tried bariatric surgery but they wouldn't operate because of the steroids. I have languished for a year, making no progress on the weight, due to pain, immobility and steroids. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore, so I wrote to a few surgeons with my full story and have found a surgeon in London willing to operate! So pleased! We decided that it was worth spending the money on it as my quality of life is terrible at the moment and my husband is also suffering as a consequence. I had the pre-op yesterday and, all being well, I will have the THR on 22nd June.

Wish me luck!

Wishing you all the best Suzy1959, the weight can become a issue when pain causes immobility, this had never been a problem for me until my knee became badly injured, then after the botched surgery exercise was nearly impossible...my weight snuck up a bit but I have always tended to be under weight. Steroids are obviously a problem since they can cause weight gain, a double edged sword. Sorry you have been through so much. My prayers are with you that all goes well.

Hi

I'm so sorry you are in so much pain. Good luck to you all. I was finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia but I had to keep pestering them to do something. Unfortunately, there isn't a cure for this. Pain killers aren't much use as I have other issues as well. Please keep us updated. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Hi dont no if it will help. I have had a arthritis band on my arm for some time and it really helps. Last year my legs started to play up. I just happened to be at a show and on the last stand, they had arthritis band for below the knee. When I get a lot of pain, I now wear on what leg hurts the most and I think it helps me. Good luck well worth a try but keep on for two weeks and when sleeping.
