Procrastination...

Procrastination is a funny thing. Why is it that I have all of these things I need to do round the house, bills, cleaning etc.... I know I need to sort the stuff out... But I just can't bring myself to do it! If I don't I know I'll feel shit because ill incur loads of bank charges, be skint and then generally feel shit, but even that's not enough to spur me on to do it. Weird. I'd rather sit here on my phone writing this blog. Am I just lazy?!! The actual fear of knowing reality of how bad my finances are is a put off, and I just feel too scared to face it.

Also even when I've built the courage to face sorting my finances, it's usually a fleeting one and then I won't feel like doing it again for ages. Same with house work... I can't seem to sustain any kind of continuity with this stuff and would seemingly prefer to let it build up to the point where it's bad before I deal with it.... Very annoying! Anyone exp this or have any insight, advice or tips?!

Hi Rose

Anxiety makes us feel so low , we just dont have the energy sometimes , i no how you feel

Then when we havnt done what we should we feel bad

Facing reality , when we are finding hard to just face ourself can be hard

I make a list , everything that needs doing , then I take one or two , from that list to deal with each day

Seem to manage things better , if I break them down , doesnt seem to over powering that way

Then at the end of the day , even if it is one or two things , it makes you feel good , knowing you have done something , but not sent yourself over the edge at the same time

Soon , you look & everything is crossed of ;)

Hi. I do the same as whywhy. if I think about everything it's too much and I don't no where to start. Setting tasks (achievable) each day gives a sense of accomplishment and boosts yr self worth. Then gradually, slowly things get done. Don't overload yourself. X

Hi missd, thanks for the tip and encouragement. Feeling a bit more motivated after seeing these replies. I actually cleared out a load of old papers and stuff tonight and it felt great. Didn't quite get to the logging online to my bank acc yet, but that can be a job for tomorrow xxx

Hi, Seems to be a trend. Not getting things done. I have a room which I use for my grandchildren to stay over. I store other stuff in it and I'd like to clear out and sort it. I go upstairs and try starting to organise things but get overwhelmed after a few minutes and walkout again. I think I have a problem letting go of possessions. I know that when I 'deal' with something, letters, bills etc. I feel relieved and a sense of achievement. I agree with whywhy, a little at a time, no pressure is best. Lists are great for focussing and getting things out of your head.

Hi Rose, get your finances sorted first everything else can wait once this is done you will feel a lot better I can assure you, reality I know is scary and I know from experience that avoidance is only a temporary solution to it...If you've got lots of bills or debts (i am not assuming anything apologies) then why not give Step Change a call, they are excellent and can sort out your finances.... site stepchange.org, freephone no. 0800 138 1111...They helped me...Cleaning well why not say that you'll do one room a day, im strange i can leave things for ages but once i start im on a roll as you get a boost with each accomplishment...Lists are great but also add to the list how you will reward yourself when you've completed things...Good luck Dee

Hi dee, thanks for replying. Some great advice that I will definitely take on board. After I had a clear out tonight I treated myself to pizza and chocolate :-) I saw the advert for steps change the other day actually and thought I might give them a call.

Know how you feel write a list and tick off as u go.

The process of doing this actually helps. Doing nothing doesn't help so you might aswell do something. I know this sounds smile but a friend gave me this advice & it did help..

Good luck

:)
