The comments are made by a handful of students. I am embarrassed and feel unfairly judged. These comments affect my promotion at work. I am unable to talk to my bosses. I feel trapped
I am an Asian teacher. I have had degradin... - Anxiety Support
I am an Asian teacher. I have had degrading comments from some students which are put on a website. I panic when I have to face them now.
I am disgusted to hear that in this day and age racism is still alive and kicking like this. You must tell your bosses as they have a duty of care under the equality act to ensure you are not subjected to racism at work. I'm not surprised you feel anxious however . Please report this matter.
Hi Manorama, You must report these students to your bosses. They will have a code of practise which they will use. The students should not do this and it is illegal as well! Please let your boss know about this. If you feel you can't face it , write it down and keep a copy for yourself and give it to them. You shouldn't have to feel like this xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hi Manorama,
What an awful situation for you to be in. You must be so upset but please follow all the advice above. Your employers must be informed (and it is a very good idea to put it in writing and keep copies of everything). They have a duty to protect everyone in the school from bulllying and this especially includes the staff.
Try not to think about how this incident could affect your standing in the school regarding promotion, etc. This is NOT your fault, you have done nothing to cause this. Sadly it could happen to anyone.
Are a member of a union? If so contact your representative and ask them for help and support.
Do not let this lie. No-one is allowed to intimidate you like this.
Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.x
It makes my blood boil as I am in F.E. and sympathise whole heartedly with you.
I have recently been in an 'unusual' position regarding students and they can ruin your career through just having a laugh.
Follow ALL advice above immediately - Monday.
Do you think it WILL affect promotion? or has it already? You must talk to your bosses to be able to defend yourself and REPORT the offenders. It will look worse if you are not transparent and open about it.
Clear your name so that it doesn't affect your career. If you are in F.E they will have signed a contract abiding by the rules of the college - will have copies - and which they have now breached. They should therefore be disciplined.
They will also be asked to remove it with immediate affect, all their parents will be contacted regarding their breach of contract, their personal tutor will be notified, and they will receive a verbal warning which will go on their student records.
Feeling for you xx
