Hi. I was given citalopram 20mg when my anxiety got really bad and it worked wonders for me, within a week I could feel the improvement. It is different for each person but all you can do is try. Let us know how it goes x
i have just been taken off these after near 9 years on them i started on taking 10mg then going up and up the max was 60mg a few years ago for these and that helped me but then i moved to a different area and reduced me down to their max of 40mg daily and now im on setriline 100mg daily and going back to dr tomorrow for a review to see how things are going i hope this helps. but then again its up to the person on the medication to see how YOU feel on them as everyone has different tastes.
I took a shorter low dose six month course and they worked really well to reduce the force and frequency of my panic attacks to a manageable level. Sadly since I stopped taking them I've since had a relapse of my health anxiety (right now I'm spinning out on the coach in fact trying not to freak out) so I suspect I will return to them again in a week or so to try and manage the symptoms of panic disorder once again.
I will also be seeking CBT however so I think it's wise to try both methods of treatment where possible and find what works for you.
Hi evo1210. "Cured" is not a word I would use for nervous illness. Drugs do not 'cure' nervous illness but they give you breathing space. 'Cured' implies that you will be free from anxiety for the rest of your life. Everyone gets anxious at times and rightly so. There is not a person on this planet who has not felt anxiety at some time. Yes, even the bravest of men and women have felt FEAR. They are only too ready to admit it. Anxiety is a way that nature has of warning us of impending danger so that we can take some action. Now, this is it! IT IS THE WAY YOU REACT TO WHAT IS GOING ON that is the key. However bad it may seem if you ACT by ACCEPTING it and going WITH IT you will win. We must always tell our GP how we feel. They, with the knowledge they are beginning to accumulate, will advise. Blessings and best wishes. jonathan.
thanks guys .....i feel abit better on these at week 2 half ..But day two on these on empty stomach first thing gave me panic attack pretty much like the first panic attack .They made my face feel funny like i was smiling .since taking them ive broke them in half taking them in 10mg in space of 2hours i had, dry mouth ,sweat dripping from my arm pits ,and going really dizzy standing up from being sat down..now at the minute ive got really sore gum at the back of my teeth yet still that freaking out an panic feeling are still there like its saying nope your not aloud to go or ill stop ya
Hi evo1210. Dr. Weekes calls talks of that "Little Voice" that keeps telling us things like, 'you will never get over this'-'This is too much for you to cope with etc.etc. We must IGNORE that little voice. It has no power over us and the only energy it has we give it by paying attention to it. Your body is reacting to the stress you are putting on it and the symptoms are those of Anxiety. By the way. Don't take medicine on an empty stomach, as you have already found out!!. Best wishes. jonathan.
Maybe go back to your GP and ask to try something different. There are a lot of meds out there you can try, and often the first medication people try doesn't suit them. I'd definitely also suggest CBT as it can really improve your quality of life, without any side effects x
thanks for taking the time for repleys guys and gals were can i get this dr weekes from sounds pretty good jonathan2468 ..mine usally starts kicking off with thoughts of having panic attack any where i go even the shop down the road ..when i am constant doing something taking my mind of things its does'nt bother me as much i feel its there but not going to bounce out of control .but soon as one bad thought gets in bang it very hard getting rid of the panic ..i all so get this feeling of fear and dread so bad its like being on a plane and jst been told its going crash i go really white in face when this happens .. thanks evo1210
Hi. evo1210. I would be most interested in your opinion of Dr. Weekes' book. It is not easy and not for everyone but, in my opinion and after many years of anxiety, it is still the best way.
If you suffer from Agoraphobia then you will find that this is something she specialised in.
The very thought of having a panic attack will bring it on. One lays the fertile soil for it to flourish by being AFRAID of "IT". Of course, if you 'take your mind off things' it will go into the background only to re-emerge later. One of the answers is not to add SECOND FEAR. That is the "Oh my goodness, I must get home, this is a really bad one, won't get over this". More FEAR added to an already sensitised body. Fire on fire! Please do get the book, it will be money well spent. Cheaper by far than some of the other methods seen on blogs of late". Best wishes. Jonathan.
hi jonathan2468
this that you wrote... Oh my goodness, I must get home, this is a really bad one, won't get over this". More FEAR added to an already sensitized body. Fire on fire!..... ive been doing this now for some time now .i rush ome when i feel panic starting. I don't know how to stop it ..i try thinking of other things and stuff when i try go out it always wins and i rush ome then i am fine ..thanks evo1210
If Citalopram doesn't suit you, you can ask for something else similar. I am on EScitalopram (brand name Cipralex) which is often better-tolerated. I found that by starting on 5mg daily for 2 weeks, then building up gradually, I was able to tolerate the initial increase in panicky feelings.
Citalopram have helped my panic attacks a great deal! But my anxiety symptoms come and go. X
