Not All Our Fault.

Hi All. It must be self evident that we live in a rather "sick" society. The emphasis is mostly on greed and hedonistic pursuits. We, the sufferers in this society tend to blame ourselves for our problems, but, in lots of cases ( more than we imagine) we are sensitive people who are "upset" by what goes on around us. How many of us on this site do not re-act to the horrifying pictures we see of starving children on TV? All around us are anxiety making events going on and, in lots of cases, the workplace has become a place to avoid rather than a happy place to go to. We sufferers tend to blame ourselves for how we feel; to diminish ourselves as human beings. We have every right to feel our emotions because we are sensitive people. There are a lot of "good" people out there but why are things getting worse instead of better? Anxiety and depression are on the increase, this cannot be denied. What I am really getting at (thank God, you say!) is that we must not entirely blame ourselves for how we feel. This is not simplistic, or an excuse for not doing something about our condition. But we are like a little ship buffeted by storms and trying desperately to stay afloat. Some of you will know what I mean! It is a case of keeping our heads below the parapet. Not getting involved psychologically in what goes on outside. After all there is very little we can do about it in our present state. We have to be selfish in that we need to put ourselves in order so that, when we feel better, we can help others in a similar situation. Argumentative? OK. But I believe we have to face things as they are. And this includes the way we feel. Blessings to all. jonathan.

100% true Jonatha, God bless you my dear is like you are in my mind.

i cry my eyes out if i see or read anything emotional and i always felt like stupid, but i guess there is a reason behind it. i blamed it on me being over sensitive.

you should be a speaker, like motivational speaker honestly, you are very clear and to the point.

hope you are well

Yet again you have hit the nail on the head Jonathon!. We must keep ourselves as fit as possible in order to help others. Time and time again I say to myself " I won't fall for that again" but I do.......I am soft centered and worry about others. Then I realise they wouldn't notice if I fell off the planet! We can't change the kind of person we are. I too hope you are well xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi ellabella. I would miss you on the site if you fell off the planet, and I am sure there are others. My mother used to call me "chicken hearted". (Same as your soft centred) Ah well!, we are as we are. Best wishes and blessings. jonathan.

I never cry over sad & unpleasant news stories anymore, because when I was in my late teens, I simply woke up one morning & realised that the world is quite an awful place & people are mostly rotten, at least that`s been my experience of life. I decided to let other people get on with it & just take care of number one, because if you try to help others they won`t thank you for it, but just take advantage.

Hi hairyfairy. Please don't misunderstand what I have said. Looking after number one applies very much while we are ill but, when recovered, we sometimes find that our empathy for others has increased so we try to help. One of the blessings of this illness (oh yes, there are blessings) is that we realise, in spite of the suffering, most people are courageous and brave people. If I may say so you sound a little bitter. This does not help in nervous illness although I believe we all feel this way at times. What I was trying to say is that having gone through the "breakthrough" we can be better, more sympathetic people. This raises us to a different level of understanding; more able to deal with life's problems. Blessings to you and good luck. jonathan.
