When doctors ask if anti-depressants have worked...

What do they mean exactly? As in, what are antidepressants supposed to do? Are you supposed to feeling normal on them, like as if you didn't have a disorder? Or are they just supposed to temper the symptoms/stop them from getting worse? I'm never 100% sure what to say when doctors ask me if pills have worked. I still feel ill on them and will say they haven't worked but then when I go off them my symptoms seem to get worse, so surely they're doing something and I just haven't noticed?

What would you count as anti-ds working?

I think you just need to tell them exactly how you are feeling and let them decide whether it's working. They will know how you should/ shouldnt be feeling. Be completely honest with them about all of your symptoms and I think push them to advise you.

All antidepressants work differently for different people but everything you say is true, what are they suppose to do. Then you say they must do something because when you come off them you are worse. Its not that you are worse my fiend, in my view all these years we have become dependant on them and subconsiously when we come off them we feel bad again and it is our sub concious mind that tells us this and i believe this so very much. Maybe retraining our mind to thinking that we do not need any medication to get right would be a good idea.

I got it into my head that the only meds that work for my depression is Citalopram and it took me years to get on them in the first place. Then after deciding to try something else as soon as i did the symptoms were so much worse. I could not breathe properly all the time, i felt like i was this really horrible person, so i stopped taking them and immediately went back onto my Citalopram. However i know this was in my sub concious because i can be 110% honest that they meds do nothing at all for my depression in the least. However i feel they help with my panic attacks and you know something hun, they don't its just something i have in my head because even before i went on them i managed to get through an attack. But now i am dependant on them yet again until i retrain my mind to telling me i do not need them and i will.

Good luck ns best wishes to you. x
