My mother, sister and me - still have or had a prescribed dosage of pregabalin for generalized anxiety - and when I was on it myself it helped me get over a lot of things I struggled with. Talking to people became easier, the general stress and fear of daily life became a lot less heavy on the shoulders and it did exactly what it is prescribed for. Lessens the feeling of anxiety immensely almost making you wonder if that is how other people feel all the time. I would take a break from time to time and the stress would rise again unknowingly and if I then took them again, within the hour I was feeling relaxed or comfortable enough to let emotions out rather than bottle them up and be able to cry. Which I find hard to do in general.

Dangerously though, is the fact that it can be quite euphoric in a certain sense. A lot of abuse of pregabalin in drug culture has been increasing namely in the UK, if I remember correctly.

I myself had the medication and did some drugs recreationally for some time with a tiny group of friends. They didn't suffer from anxiety like I always have and I was convinced it was the best feeling ever. Pure comfort and euphoria, only the pregabalin. That's how much I liked it. Yet they barely felt a thing because it didn't help them manage something that wasn't that strongly present.

I stopped eventually, but my mother and sister take it normally and properly and have for a long time.

Tl;dr - It's helpful if you react the same way as I did and it could help immensely.

can I have an odd glass of wine

It won't cause anything bad if you have the odd glass of wine. Just like with any substances, unless very clearly stated not to, you can do what you are normally used to. Just be warned that for an individual reactions always differ. As lon as you're being responsible you'll be fine.

Pregabaline has a sort of floaty drunken effect as main term people describe it with. You get used to it, but it's also the reason it's not recommended to drive until you are properly used to the medication.

If you are talking about the odd glass of wine, for what I assume is calming the nerves and relaxing, you'll probably find a great synergy with the two.

ah yes I’m not a drinker but I like an occasional glass of wine with my meals Thank you for your help. Do you think a dose of 25mg will help. I only weigh 43 kgs so don’t want anything too strong I feel very frightened to give it a go but I certainly need something as the chronic anxiety is causing my weight loss

Don't feel frightened. It has the possibility to help and you can always discuss with your health care professional if you are not a fan of the medication. I believe I had 300mg capsules at one point, maybe twice a day? Once in the morning once before bed. The dosages seem high, but it works the same way with paracetamol. Some substances just need a larger amount to achieve their task. I weighed 70kg at the time and and I think the dosages started at 50mg or something? But it's been a while so I might have it all wrong.

Point is, if it helps it helps, and otherwise you just quit taking them after talking with your professional. ^^

No need to worry, if you do decide to take it I hope it helps you lots!

Hello ninja 1 Yes I take it I was prescribed it for severe back pain after an operation and I noticed after a while that my mood changed I started to enjoy going out I spoke to my GP and she kept me on it at a low dose

My anxiety has improved so much because of it I am doing things I could only dream of before it's like a new lease of life

So it has definitely worked for me and I hope so much you will find it does the same for you but give it a couple of months as you won't see a change straight away

Wishing you all the very very best xx

I had a knee replacement and afterwards I had terrible pain in my back and was put on 5 /50 mg tabs a day and my GP said I could increase them according to the pain Well they were brilliant and worked so I decreased them as it started to ease but it was when I started to go out again that I would come home and think I really enjoyed today and not had awful anxiety I started to really look forward to things for the first time for ages I spoke to my GP and she was happy for me to stay on them At the time I was on 3 a day 2 in the morning one at night I'm now on 2 /50mg a day and honestly I am a different person I used to have crippling anxiety to go out I have done such a lot since I started to take them in Jan 2022 I didn't want to be on any medication and found it by chance really but I am so glad I did

I'm so sorry that you have anxiety it's the most horrible horrible thing isn't it but if I can get better then honestly anyone can

I really really wish you well

I would love to hear how you get on and if they help which I'm certain they will

Take care and all the very best x

Hi Cat33. Are you still taking the 50mg tabs 2 times a day? I ask because I was prescribed pregabaline for back pain I'm having. When I researched it, I came across articles saying it helped with anxiety. I'm currently taking 75mg twice a day, and was hoping it might help with my anxiety as well, although I'm not holding my breath at this low dose. I'm more concerned about my anxiety more than my back pain, for which these aren't helping at this dose either.

I have never ever had any nasty side effects at all and that's low so I'm sure you will be ok -sorry I know I'm not a doctor - just my own experience The one thing that I found was it gave me back my appetite so that would be good for you

All the very best x

hi I am on CLONAZEPAM .5 mg and they only take half of that I just started so it’s really only my fourth day on it. I take a half at night and a half in the morning it’s so helping really well, I don’t know if this is a class of bud the one that you take I wonder if anybody knows how long it takes to really help you I have severe anxiety and sometimes I don’t even know what’s causing it. At that point I don’t like to take medication. I’m always afraid of taking medication, so I’m very very conservative with that, I hope everyone can get rid of their anxiety because it’s really the most horrible disease to me that there ever was thank you getting better and then something happens. I try to stay positive. I try to listen to music exercise I try everything with no help.
