Hi SillyDolphin, I'd like to Welcome you to a safe and caring site.Anxiety hung around me for many years even including Agoraphobia.
I was on medication as well as having lots of therapy. Addressing the
issue causing anxiety may be the first step but adding to it some other
methods/tools to take that step forward are necessary.
If we don't include "action" in our healing process, we tend to stay stuck
in a cycle of fear. I've explored many different methods to use in getting me
out of my anxiety state. One of which is Meditation and Breathing. I do it
upon awakening each morning, midafternoon and again before sleep at night.
Doing this can put you in a more receptive state of mind for the meds and therapy
to work. Eventually you can see a calmer more in control mind and body.
I'm happy that you are here with us. As you read how others have taken on anxiety
by sharing their own experiences, can give you some ideas in what is out there.
Not everything works for everyone since we all react differently, but so worth trying
different tools until you find those that work for you alone.
Stay Positive, Stay Safe and Be Happy~ xx
Thank you for all of that information. I am pretty sure I know where the anxiety comes from. Just lately it has stopped me from doing my job. I am in therapy and trying different meds. I used to meditate some. Now trying to make myself find the time to do it is my challenge. It’s the lack of discipline to be honest. I look forward to learning and getting to know others.
What helped me with anxiety was learning that anxiety is a paradox, the more you struggle with it the more it persists so the solution is to accept the anxious thoughts and feelings. I found the DARE Anxiety book and youtube videos very helpful along with their phone app. Also, it's important to make sure your hormones, thyroid and adrenals are functioning properly because they can cause or contribute to anxiety if they are not. The other thing that helped me was determining where my anxiety originated from which was from growing up in an emotionally repressive, physically and emotionally abusive household and being bullied in school. Consequently I developed c-ptsd and worked with a trauma therapist who utilized emdr therapy which really helped my recovery. One other thing that helped is learning and practicing simple mindfulness to be able to detach from my thoughts and calm myself down, and learning to never believe my anxious thinking and accept the anxious sensations, hope this helps you.
