Hi all: I'm new here - Anxiety Support
Hi all
I havent posted b4 but I hav been getting anxious since October, many issues but also trying to break a bad habit. Should i consult a GP or should i try CBT? tablets seem to solve one prob only 2 find another. I thought i'd talk 2 the long time sufferers.
Hello Xpatbrat. Welcome to the community
Hi xpatbrat and Welcome...Anxiety can come and go in our lives but it doesn't have to hang around.
Now breaking a bad habit can exacerbate the already heightened anxiety level.
It depends what you habit is that you want to break from as to if a GP or a therapist
can help
Popping a pill is not a solution but only a band aid in allowing you to take steps forward.
I've gone through over whelming anxiety in the past that led to 5 years of Agoraphobia.
With addressing the issues surrounding my anxiety through therapy as well as medication
I found the answers more clearly that worked for me. Acceptance and not fear and
daily Meditation/Breathing to quiet my over sensitized nervous system.
Taking steps forward through CBT can help immensely. The key is that we must not
stay stuck in a cycle of fear but walk through that fear and accept it as not harmful.
Anxiety itself starts with a thought that grows within us and before long physical symptoms are experienced. If we stop that negative thought and move through that fear, anxiety will
start to back away as the coward it is.
I'm happy to have you here with us xx
Thanks Agora1. We all have habits, some of them bad. I'm really ashamed to mention, and its probably "not as bad as all that". Just targeting it, makes it worse or heightens it.
I think just talking to GP, without medication is the answer, but if i can do some counselling it may get to the bottom of it. I smell a rat as I lost my mother at 10 yo, and a lot leads that way. I'm a firm believer that stress manifests in many ways, as you close one door another opens. For example hyperventilation (over-breathing, causing panic, pins and needles.
I'm thinking of the film awakenings-is it with De Niro. How he awoke those patients. Damn good film. Not sure why i'm thinking of it, but the twitches they had.!!!!
You have helped me, and i thank you for responding
