Hi, so long story short but I was nearing the end of a gabapentin script and I called the doctor for a renewal and the new script said take 200mg (I’ve been on 400mg for 5 years or so). I assumed that he wanted me to taper off it so I took 200mg for a few weeks.. well after a few weeks I got some weird suicidal thoughts, real soon and gloom accompanied by tension headaches.. I called him and he said it was a mistake so I’m back on 400mg now. Anyone else had this issue and how long does it take to correct itself?

Has anyone experienced Gabapentin withdrawal?
Hello
I take it for pain and I would imagine as it does have a kind of sedative effect that taking you of it to soon without a tapering plan would cause some problems
I am hoping eventually I will be able to come of it but I will be making sure they taper me of it where I do not go through what you have had to experience
I would imagine it will only take a few days since you are back on your normal dose for these thoughts to settle down again x
I was on 400mg/day for pain and was advised to wean myself off them, as it was suspected that they did nothing for the pain and NICE is no longer recommending for that. I found the worst transition was from 200 down to 100, as I was halving the dose and became very irritable. Overall, it took a month to go gradually from 400 to nothing, and another month before my anxiety settled, but seem OK now and the pain is no worse.
