Hi .if anyone has pulsating tinnitus on here i would love to hear from you . I have got pulsating T i think ,it is in time with my heart beat because if i walk quickly at work it gets quicker in my ear ,i only have it in the left ear ,been going on for around 6 weeks now . i have taken my pulse and the high pitched noise in my ear is in synch with my heart beat ....I recently had a MRI to rule out acoustic neuroma and tumours of brain stem all came back clear .i have been referred to ENT and am awaiting an appointment . has anyone been to ENT for pulsating T or normal T ? if so would you mind telling what i am to expect at the appointment? i suffer quite bad HA and this situation is really getting me down . i am on Prozac been on them since 2013 for menopausal reasons . i also take propranolol 40mg twice a day for anxiety and recently been given amitriptyline to help me sleep which they do work quite well . But this tinnitus is an absolute nightmare know its very common i just want it to stop and go away . Thank you for reading x.

pulsating tinnitus .?
All of the meds you are taking have links to causing tinnitus. I was on an antidepressant that caused mine. Just a thought. Don’t try to self diagnose, let the doc give you the tests you need and rule out all other possible causes.
That said my husband has tinnitus everyday (takes no meds) and lives with it, he’s able to tune it out, it louder in the mornings. I’ve mentioned on your other thread what they will test for. Nothing invasive.
So sorry its so bothersome and surely the anxiety it’s causing is debilitating, hope you get answers soon.
Adding a little info (link) that lists possible causes and medications that might be culprits.
I've had "normal" tinnitus for almost 13 yrs. I've had pulsating on and off, mostly off.
At the ENT, he did a hearing test for any hearing loss. Maybe he looked in my ear too? It was 10 yrs ago, so I don't remember. It was nothing at all to be worried about or scared of. You've done the MRI scan and been cleared, so there's nothing sinister there.
After the tests ruled out anything bad, I decided to accept that the tinnitus was for life. The more you fight it, the worse it seems, so I kept myself busy and distracted. Then the tinnitus seemed to lose control over me and got "quieter". If you panic, the brain focuses on the sound more and more. If you try to stay calm, the brain accepts there's nothing to worry about or fear and starts to "tune out" the noise. Eventually you don't care when you hear the noise. Then you forget it altogether.
The tinnitus acceptance process took me a few weeks. Now it doesn't bother me at all. I have to "tune in" to hear and increase the noise. Otherwise, I don't remember or think about it.
hi .thank you all for your reply and kind help ..thanks for the links on meds ...roxi which tread did you put what ent would be testing for on ? i cant seem to find it x
I can’t find it either, I’m without my glasses at the moment so that doesn’t help.
But they will test your hearing, balance and study your eye movements. Tinitus if natural causes and especially age related almost always involves hearing loss. There are probably advances in doctor protocols that may involve other tests, it’s been 5 years since my test, and more than that since my husbands.
Please if you can try to relax, this isn’t harmful to your health and and as noted above, staying hyper focused increases your anxiety will make the sounds seem even more intense. Might look into getting a sound machine that might help you find a sound that will mask or cover up what you are hearing as well. I’ve got one that produces white, pink noise and other nature sounds I use to block out street noise for sleep.
HI. I had a hearing test the other day and i have lost some hearing in both ears ,nothing major but their is hearing loss. yes i will definitely look into some white noise help etc, and yes i am trying so hard to relax ,some days im ok others not so good .x
Hi I’ve suffered with tinnitus for years, excuse the pun, I have different tinnitus sounds in each year and sometimes pulsating tinnitus which is frightening. So I really feel for you. I’ve been to see an ent consultant a few times, and the tests are nothing to worry about. Ask if you can be referred to a tinnitus counsellor it helped me to cope and accept my tinnitus. Mine gets or appears worst when I’m ill, run down or stressed out. There is a tinnitus forum on the tinnitus org web site that you might find helpful and just to know that you are not alone. Diversion tactics might help, also don’t have music or any noise louder than your tinnitus as your tinnitus will complete with it. Take care
Hope you get some relief and feel better soon. I never had it and I can’t imagine. I hope they can find the right medication to help you.
Hi Lyn, I have had tinnitus for years & have been told that there is little that can be done for it. Fortunately mine isn’t high pitched it is more of a low droning sound. I always have music playing or the TV on to mask the noise. I have learned to live with it & I think my brain has got used to it so it doesn’t sound as loud after a time. Some days it’s worse that others. I the quieter your surroundings the more you notice it. Hope this helps.x
I had tinnitus for months after horrific episodes of vertigo. I also had cat scan with dye and full head MRI and Nothing can be found. They told me I have vestibular problems from perhaps nerve damage... not fun!
