Does getting up early in the morning help reduce anxiety?

These days, because of the lockdown, I tend to have long sleeps in the morning. And I don't get up until 9:30am or 10. Because I'm now doing this everyday I have a feeling this is somewhat contributing to my heightened anxiety as of late. So would getting up earlier in the morning improve that? Thanks

Sticking to routine is very important. Changing our sleep (even our eating schedule) can throw our circadian rhythm/body clock off balance.

I’d say if you managed better with earlier schedule, get back to that, you’ll have to eventually when/if you are going to having to readjust back to the hours you were used to.

Some people are naturally night owls like me. Others are early birds. Now I have retired and don't have to be up early my sleeping pattern is similar to yours.

It depends on which you feel better doing, while recognising that you might have to change it when you return to work. I always found changing it back quite easy as long as you do this several days beforehand.

I believe its mostly your state of mind. Its interesting for me in mid March our State had a shut down of work do to the Covid. I was many of State employees stayed home for about 2 months. My stress and anxiety level came down very low quickly, due to the fact that in my mind I didn't have to go work and I could enjoy being home relaxing with getting paid, and I like my job. Everyone is different, find whatever it takes to lessen your anxiety.

I think it could help, especially if you are a morning person.

I used to wake around 7:30 and felt a little rushed before work.

I now wake between 5 -5:30. With that extra time, I exercise, write, play the guitar, read a devotional or study(depending on the day) Getting up early allows me to accomplish things before the day actually begins. It also helps me pursue dreams that might get pushed aside during the rush of the day. This absolutely diminishes my anxiety.

My hours aren't normal compared to most but it works. I don't get to sleep until about 8am and I wake up about every hour after that but always manage to get back to sleep. I sleep the best in the afternoon and can sleep a couple hours straight through and finally get up after that. Been that way all my life and I can't sleep without the TV on and a fan blowing, even during the winter.
