I have just been on a 4 mile walk. I’m very unfit. For the last hour my heart rate was 140+ and now I’m resting after and it’s sitting at 100, is this normal?

Heart rate when walking
My heart has been really high lately as well, not sure if it’s normal but when I went to drs I was at 129 and by the end of appointment it was at 99 and dr didn’t seem concerned even though I was, i do have an appointment in a week so we’ll see how it is then.
A normal resting heart rate is 60-100 beats per minute. If you’re unfit and anxious, it would be at the higher end.
Well done for going out to walk. Before going on a get fit program, you should have a check up with your doctor. Even when beginning to walk, you gradually need to start slow and take small steps to increase the distances until you can talk and walk at the same time comfortably. If you don't have a fellow walker, try talking to yourself out loud. There are scales about percentage increases from baseline resting heart rates which vary according to your age which should be guide only (each body reacts differently even if the same age). Good luck and keep doing it. Watch out at the 2 week mark when motivation to keep going often hits the brick wall
