Does it smell like rotten flesh? does it have any green/yellow discharge? Is the pain getting worse or improving? If you answer yes then likely infection, if no then probably not just keep it clean and covered. If your on antibiotics I wouldn't expect it be infected either. But I'm no doctor I'm more used to a perineum (,I'm a midwife!)

No doesn’t smell just old blood but cleaned today would say the pain hasn’t got any worse

Hello :-)

Personally I would try and get it checked out

It does not look infected but none of us our Doctors and can clarify that only a Doctor could

It does look very sore :-o

Hope you manage to get it sorted and it heals :-)

Take Care x

I can’t see a doctor as of the coronavirus and my parents are very vunrable to this and I can’t risk going to the hospital and getting the virus over a finger feel it’s selfish

Also thanks a lot for the reply 😊

I understand x

It will throb and be a little painful as it heals, each day that all will subside.

Scabbing over is good. It will be scared so it won’t look 100% like it did before. Keep it clean, hydrogen peroxide is good if you have it, apply antiseptic ointment like Neosporin. I’d keep it covered when using your hand, let it air out when at rest.

Yeh couldn’t find the piece of skin and good to hear just get worried it could get sepsis but that’s my mind overthinking

Hi luke, I cut my finger aat the end of January probably 4 or 5 times the size of that. The hospital were going to cut a inch off my finger but didn't in the end. Your finger looks OK but I would definitely keep it covered and clean. I used a lot of savlon cream in the end. If you have gone deep enough that tip will eventually come off and new skin will grow underneath.

I’m worried I’m going to get sepsis as the pain is pretty bad can’t imagine having a cut 4 times bigger that must of killed , has your finger completely healed yet ? And how long does it take

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

You want get sepsis as long as you keep it clean. My finger still hurts a bit now and where the skin grew back I don't have any feeling in it. It took about 6 weeks before I took the bandage off then another 4 weeks to heal I'd say. Yours won't take anywhere as near as that. I'd say round a month by the look of it. Your skin will probably even reattach mine had no chance as I went to to bone.

Lukew20 in reply toDeanSamson

You didn’t change the bandage for 6 weeks ?(should I leave my bandage on for 3-4 weeks and then look at it ? ) and is it possible I will lose feeling In the area I cut the skin off ?

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

I changed the bandage every week at the start then as I healed it was more frequent. If you cut the skin off it will be worse. Your skin might take to the finger again where mine didn't. I would keep it covered for a few days. Keep it covered won't slow the healing process down but will make the end of the finger moist. And it will smell a little bit don't worry that's normal as it's sweating.

Okay I’ll keep it wrapped up for next 3 days and let you know if any progress I reckon if I just leave it alone it will heal better thanks for the advice mate

And aswell I haven’t got any skin where I cut it it’s just raw red

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

It was still heal the same. You've been lucky that you only cut that bit at the end. Good luck keep in touch

My skin keeps getting stuck to the iodine dressing 😤

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

Yeah mine did if you can find non adhesive dressing that's best. Or let it stick and soak it off. You'll be absolutely fine leaving for a week at least. When I first did mine I was told not to touch it for 3 weeks by the surgeon.

Lukew20 profile image
Lukew20 in reply toDeanSamson

Yep fount adhesive dressing in my house gonna leave wrapped thanks a lot I can see loads of dead skin round the wound is that normal

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

Yeah that's completely normal. Shows your wound isn't to bad as it's healing already and regenerating. Mine never did that for 2 weeks 😭🤣🤣

Ok mate that’s great just gonna let it heal and see how it goes the skin around it and feels like I’ve lost sensation in the skin at the end or is that just while the skin is knitting back ? And yeh can’t imagine the pain your would of been to of cut to the bone 😟

DeanSamson profile image
DeanSamson in reply toLukew20

Yeah you will lose sensation for a while then it will come back. The speed all depends on how deep you went.

Cover your finger with an iodine dressing for a couple of days, do not get wet. Then have a look if settling down apply a dry dressing, or if not another iodine dressing, if no improvement by 5 to 7 days contact GP surgery for a an opinion

Lukew20 profile image
Lukew20 in reply toUkeMan

Hey I’ve run out of dressing and can’t go out as my family members are vunrable to this virus what should I use ? 😟

UkeMan profile image

You can buy iodine and dry dressings from the internet. Just google what you want and buy. I ordered some and took a few days to arrive. If a cut is not healing etc iodine dressings are what nurses use to heal infected wounds, so always good to have in you medical box. Just a word of warning just make sure you are not allergic to iodine, if so stop using at once.

Lukew20 profile image
Lukew20 in reply toUkeMan

Bought iodine dressing today how would I know if I’m allergic to it I’ve used it stings a bit but seems to be doing its job

UkeMan profile image
UkeMan in reply toLukew20

You should soon know if you are allergic your finger will get worse. So it sounds ok.

Hopefully your finger will improve and get better. I gad a cut on my leg that was not clearing up (I have to take a blood thinner - Wafarin). I asked a nurse at my GP practice what I could do and she recommended the iodine and it was great for me healed within a week.

Thanks a lot mate I’ll leave the iodine dressing on for a few days and let you know if it’s helping thanks for the advice it’s deffo helped the wound throb less and weep

Lukew, I will say it's a much bigger cut that I anticipated when first talking

with you. Is there a way that you could contact a Doctor on Line and show

him that picture of your finger. I would feel better with a professional taking

a look. What do your parents think? Have you showed them?

I agree with Lulu-1 in that a doctor should have a look at it. If not in person

then through video. Agora1

Lukew20 in reply toAgora1

The pain is still pretty bad but it looks better than that picture today how would I show the doctors a video

Lukew20 profile image
Lukew20 in reply toLukew20

Yeh showed my parents they don’t think it’s infected and I’m just being dramatic over a finger cut 😐

Ryan990 profile image
Ryan990 in reply toLukew20

Keep it clean . The hospital wouldn’t do much more than clean it for you anyway. Keep an eye on it tho. Just looks like a flesh wound 👍

Lukew20 profile image
Lukew20 in reply toRyan990

Yeh must agree just gotta keep clean and it will heal gradually 😊
