Day 4 of weaning

So this is day 4 of stopping Xanax and trying to cope with my anxiety and panic on my own. I felt good day 1 and 2, yesterday I was a little more anxious and irritable, but today. Oh boy today I have been up since 2 am because I couldn’t fall back asleep. I also feel hung over even though I didn’t drink. Slightly more anxious now that I’m starting work.

I shouldn’t say I weaned off, I stopped taking them cold turkey after having taken anywhere from 0.25-1.75 mg every for the past 2.5 months.

I gotta stay strong y’all, anyone experience mild withdrawal symptoms like this when coming off a benzo?

Did your doctor recommend that you just quit cold turkey? I would think that he or she would have you wean off if you've been taking it daily.

No he did not recommend it. I just don’t want to be on it and want to learn how to cope with my anxiety without a medication masking it.

You shouldn’t just stop clod turkey, you could have a seizure from doing that. Should talk with your DR about stoping any benzodiazepine. Let the Dr tell you how to stop taking them.

Why did you stop taking them ? Didn’t they work for you ?

It’s been 4 days, I think seizures from withdrawal happens within the first 1-2 days of withdrawal

Yes they did work for me. I’m just not big on medication for this very reason that you have to deal with withdrawal and weaning and it just masks the problem it doesn’t solve it, just makes it go away for a bit. I’d rather heal as natural as possible.

Yes I have , drink at least 3 litres of water , vitamin c supplements , and try to sweat it out as much as you can . Be careful tho bro, if you get real sick go to ER. But I think you’ll be fine . 2.5 months isn’t the worst . Good luck . You got this fam 👊👊👊, what don’t kill us , makes us stronger ya kno

Thank you! According to a calculating website it should be out of my system by now. I just feel like I’m hung over but I also didn’t sleep very well last night so that could be a factor.

Good afternoon,

You really should wean off of xanax if you were taking for a few months everyday. I would recommend just taking .25 or .50 for 1 day and then .25 for a few days. I take xanax as needed. If I take a full dosage for me (.50 mg x 2 per day) then I need to take .25 for the next day or so to feel better. Then I dont take it until I need it again. Everyone is different, but when you take it everyday you need to allow your body to adjust to NOT taking it slowly. Its not a bad thing to allow your body and mind to adjust. Take a pill if you are prescribed it.

I mean I’m already on day 4 I think starting back up now to wean down would be nonsensical as it’s already out of my system .

I love your attitude , you are just like me, you get on with it and don’t look back . Good on ya fam

I mean with all do respect I just asked if anyone had any similar symptoms not to be lectured on the dangers of just stopping cold turkey. I know my body, and I know the risks. I would take a low dose if I felt symptomatic towards the dangerous withdrawal effects

i just wanted to make sure you were ok. Its ok to take a small dosage if you need to as you are adjusting. If you feel ok then thats great.

Thank you. It was worse this morning I think a lot of what I was feeling is due to lack of sleep. I’ve never tolerated lack of sleep well and even vomited at a sleep over when I was a kid because I was so tired I got sick. But I had to be cool and stay up all night with the girls.

I stopped Xanax and Klonopin cold turkey and it was total hell but I'd been on high doses for a long time, (stupid doctors back then) and taking it as prescribed. It wasn't a mild withdrawal - cramps, seizures, the whole thing, and I barely remember it. After that it progressed into protracted withdrawals that I'm still going through. I later found out if you taper slowly it doesn't usually go into protracted withdrawal.

I think a lot of what was going on yesterday was from sleep deprivation. I feel back to normal today.

BIG MISTAKE going cold turkey??? You have had a doctor assist you with that? He would probably cut down on the doses little at a time. Seek a doctors help.

Again, I knew the risks, I work with a doctor all day long in family practice if I had any concerns about major side effects I would have consulted him. I wasn’t asking if this was a big mistake I was only asking if anyone else had experienced the same withdrawal effects. I know my body. I know the risks. I know what signs to look for.

Sounds like the withdrawals are showing up in this message??? read your message AGAIN you did not mention that you work for a doctor or that you knew ALL the RISK ??? I don’t read minds??? If you only want the responses you want to read??? you shouldn’t write here? I wish you the Best

You can’t end telling me I shouldn’t write here with wish you the best. Why would you start a comment with something super judgey? BIG MISTAKE? I didn’t start my post with did I make a mistake? I asked if anyone had experienced similar symptoms and what they went through so I could relate and gain more knowledge. Maybe someone would have said yes I had these and got through it, or yes I had these and then had an unexpected seizure. I was looking for insight not judgement and criticism. I understand that having anxiety, hyper focusing on someone else can help you feel a sense of helpfulness and accomplishment, but damn Gina maybe be more mindful of how you are talking to people.

This site is about giving support, not telling someone how wrong it is to do something the way they are doing it . You’ve gone cold turkey , so have I , if it works for us, then it should be respected . Some people need to work there way down from something , others don’t . Clearly you are doing good , people just want you to do it there way. Like I said before , well done 👊, stay strong . Sorry for calling you bro btw, for some reason I thought you was guy with the old cartoon picture

I have no idea what character was there before hahaha. No worries I call everyone bro guy or girl 😂. Cold turkey is not recommended, I will say anyone reading this should consult with a doctor before stopping any medications as these can have serious and deadly side effects. Just a disclaimer I don’t want anyone to read this and say oh he and she did this so I can and really end up in trouble
