Hi guys I’ve had a bad chest infection for over 3 weeks with a bad persistent cough this has eased but I’m left with a deep hoarsy throat and I’m worried sick it’s something serious I’ve had the hoarseness for about 8 days it’s not always there but when it is I get a dry mouth and have to cough to clear it..I’ve been drs about my chest infection and stuff they say it’s all clear my chest everything I didn’t have a hoarsy throat then is this normal after a bad chest infection has anyone else suffered from this I’m petrified it’s something serious

Sorry to be a burden I have chronic health anxiety

Hi relax as it's common to have a hoarse voice after a nasty chest infection. A doctor told me not to worry about it unless it goes on for 6 weeks or longer. x

Very common, I've had bronchitis and suffer from chest complaints around this time every year, a few years ago I completely lost my voice due to coughing after a chest infection.

My wife had the same, but the other way round: sore throat since Xmas, then a hacking cough for almost 3weeks, which didn't respond to antibiotics, but seems to be easing a bit now. This is the first time I can recall her being off work for a fortnight - she's 67. There's obviously an upper respiratory virus going round (not corona!) which may have mutated, so people who don't normally get these conditions don't have their usual immunity.

I doubt this is anything serious. At any one time there are about 200 respiratory viruses doing the rounds, and the vast majority are relatively innocuous; but they can still take it out of you and need some time to recover from.

My doctor told me there are a lot of things going around at the moment and they can take several weeks to clear up, unfortunately unless it's bacterial, anti biotics will do nothing to these bugs, rest is advised but being self employed that's not always possible, these things take their time to clear up.... This damn went, mild weather doesn't help at all.
