Hi everyone,

Just looking for a bit of advice which someone that increased the dose of mirtazipine from 15m to 30m for Anxiety and insomnia.

I have been taking it for 4 weeks which didn't do much to me and at the end add a slight increase in anxiety, went back to the doctors and he recommended increasing the dose to 30m,

I am on my 3 day of 30m and still feeling very anxious.

Anyone that increased the dosage and what experience you had with this change.

I'm tempted to go back to 15m but Im going to Stay and stick with 30m for 2 weeks.

Many thanks and any information will be much appreciated.

Kind Regards.

Hi....my gp increased my dose from 15 to 30mg & I was so anxious and felt worse than ever for several weeks, prob about 4/5 weeks before I could say I found any benefit from the higher dose. I have been taking the higher dose for about 12 weeks now & I won’t say I never get anxious, but it is certainly more manageable & also the benefit of sleeping all night is a bonus too. I would say stick with it & im sure u will begin to feel better 😉😉

Hi Arlene,

Many thanks for you advice.

I felt better yesterday on my 4th day and today not as good.

Still not sleeping too well but sleeping enough.

I will stick with it for a few weeks as yesterday gave me encouragement and also your comment.

Many thanks and hope you keep well.

Cheers x

Hi Arlene, just wondering I've been taking 30 mg for just over 2 weeks now and although I had the odd day that I'm ok I'm still not feeling benefits from the increase .

Sleeping ok but quite tired most days anxiety a tiny bit better but feeling a little detached with a slight heavy head if you know what I mean.

I was subscribed this medication as I couldn't sleep and was giving me anxiety because of that .

Did you feel worse once you increased to 30mg before you felt better ?

I'm planning on sticking with it for at least another 2/3 weeks. Before I decide

Your reply will be much appreciated

Hi .....I was on 15 mg for a while, but was not helping so my dose was increased to 30mg & can honestly say it took about 6 weeks to feel any benefit from the increased dose.....I was at the point of stopping it....but I’m glad I stuck with it. I still have episodes of anxiety, but I’m much more in control of it now & am hoping that they will eventually go for good. I would stick with the 30mg and I hope u start to feel the benefit. I would say that I do sleep much better at night although I can feel a little tired still in the morning. Hope this helps, feel free if you want to talk about this further xx

Hi, and good morning,

Thank you so much for your reply, it helps a lot.

Just to explain a little more about my situation.

I had an episode that I couldn't sleep for a few days and that cause me some anxiety and into a little vicious circle.

My GP recommend sertaline as he said if I could tackle the anxiety my sleep would go back to normal .

Unfortunately after only 3 doses my anxiety got worse 10 fold to levels I never ever thought I would have. I suppose I had a bad reaction to it .

Went back to the docs and I subscribed me mirtazipine 15mg which I took for about 4 weeks ...my sleep got little better but never realy got back to were I was before the sertaline.

Was quite sedated in the mornings and stuff so he recommended to up it to 30mg as the higher dose the less sedative effect accordingly to him.

which I've been taking for just over 2 weeks .

I had a few not so bad days but some quite bad days in between.

Symptoms like sedated , foggy mind, tired and anxiety very present most times and a overall sense of worry .

Sometimes Struggling to concentrate at when at work and just little worried if I'm better not taking or lowering the dose again to maybe ever 7.5mg as I'm struggling a little with the side effects.

I definitely won't change anything before I speak to my GP though.

Sometimes or most times I still don't know if I'm feeling like this because of the anxiety or it's down to side effects.

Can you please tell me what sort of side effects you felt though when you upped you dose.

Just to have a better idea and better understanding of this medication.

Again your reply will be much appreciated and thank you very much for your help/ support it will helps me moving forward.

Realy glad you feeling better 😊

Many thanks and looking forward to hear back from you x

I went cold turkey from 45mgs to nothing about ten days ago . Felt fine up until this morning . My gut is in agony . Hope it passes because I am not going back on them. Btw, I originally 3 years ago was on 15mg , then 30, then. 45. Worst mistake I made was increasing the dose. I had no benefits from it, just ended up having more side effects. Hence why I have gone cold turkey. Hope all goes ok for you tho

Hi Ryan, thanks for your comment .

Just wondering, were you taking them for anxiety? And also have you gone cold turkey after being 3 years on them?

Thanks

My GP increased my dose from 10mg to 30mg three weeks ago. I expected to feel more drowsy etc but in fact I’m experiencing the complete opposite. I can’t sleep at all. I am literally swinging between 3-4 nights without a single second of sleep then a night where I zonk out until midday followed by another 3-4 days of no sleep again. I’m exhausted.
