Some advice for..

Hi all-

I’m looking for some advice right now. I need some pointers on keeping calm throughout the day and not getting agitated. Breathing helps in the moment to help get me back to earth but I’m unsure if there’s any other routes I can take other than something like meditation

Guided Meditation. You can get free downloads of podcasts to listen to on an audio listen player. Listen to music or song that calms your nerves. I've done both but when I need to relax especially to sleep I listen to recordings of ocean waves. During the day I play a songs that really help ease my thoughts. I don't tell people what they are cause well they are what make me feel good and don't need general people spoiling it for me (not that I won't tell you if you want). It works for me and the songs spark something in my past that invoke good feelings for me. You probably have some song that can do that for you.

Thank you! I think sometimes I feel like the answers that work best are the simple ones

I agree they do. Music is a powerful tool. Just don't listen to depressing songs cause they can have the opposite effect of making you feel worse. Back in college I bought CD that had audio recording of various things like wind chimes, song birds, rain, heart beats, sounds of wind in various settings etc sounds that invoked calm and peace. I would listen to them even when I was working at my desk. My boss didn't care as long as I got stuff done and it helped.

This definitely helps me, but more so on the playing part. I hear about people with gad and depression listening to music to relieve the symptoms but I can’t deny how much better it feels to play

Other techniques: tools like those squeeze balls in your hand for when you're around a lot of people and are required to have face to face talks or department meetings or attending classes. You hold them in your hand and imagine your tension and stress flowing out your arms into your hand and into the squeezing of your exercise balls in your palm.

Then there are ancient techniques of using pressure points around your body or the other method of tapping on point around your face and body. These I learned a while back but you can watch youtube videos to learn how to use them correctly. No equipment required just self training.

Going outside is always a good idea. Getting some sunlight and fresh air. Too much time spent indoors is not optimal for our ability to reason and think clearly. Just a short 15 minute walk outside can do the trick

The fact that I’m an illustrator doesn’t help much haha, I feel as if I get stuck not only in my apartment but also in my own head with my own doubts and such.

Give yourself a break when needed. Go stand outside for a bit, stretch a little do your deep breathing. Then go back to work.

Do some yoga stretches, meditation is awesome.

Thank you, it seems so simple, but pretty difficult.

I know it takes time to get in the groove. But you can do it!

Taking walks outside could help you. The fresh air and the contact with nature and the physical activity is good for our mental health.
