I keep forgetting to breathe while sleeping

It’s 2 am and I just stumbled upon this. Finally I see others who can relate to what I’m going thu. I wish I had found this last year when I first experienced it. Last December I was going thru a lot of stress. I found this happening to me for a week straight I was so scared to sleep. I didn’t know what to do. It eventually went away before I went to the doctor and 11 months later here I am today. This time once again , I’m beyond stressed, I just had my 3rd baby and I have a 2 and 4 year old. I’m going thru a little bit of postpartum and sleep deprivation which isn’t helping at all so I completely agree that this is stressed caused. I hope who ever reads this starts to get answers , you’re not crazy ! Prayers to everyone

Hi you don't need to remember to breathe at any time as it is an automatic function of your brain. It doesn't need you to remember to do it x

Ii was doing this last night. Except ii was trying to fall asleep, and couldn’t Cos my breathing was so shallow and slow.. and it felt as though ii just wasn’t breathing without me physically making myself breathe. Was horrible !!

Ii was sure ii wasn’t going to wake !!

It is all to do with the mind .. anxiety .. stress... ii did finally fall asleep and ii did wake. Alive .. breathing.. sat here now dreading going to bed Cos ii cba to do it all over again!! Hopefully my mind forgets and it doesn’t happen again.

Hope ur well. Try not to panic. Try forget. Keep happy thoughts. Xx

When you are on the verge of sleep your breathing naturally becomes shallower and slower and is nothing to worry about.

Trust me if there was danger of not breathing your brain would wake you immediately. Have a Google about breathing and sleep as more knowledge could help you x

Your not going mad.

I have suffered terribly with the exact same thing for the last 4 years ish. It was horrible at first. Constantly felt as if I had to manually breath in or it wouldn't happen. Try and practice mindfulness, you tube is a great source for guided meditation, have a search on there for a guy called Jason stephenson. Also a very very helpful book to read is

Self-Help for Your Nerves

Claire weeks

It's only £0.99 on the kindle store.

Maybe it's sleep apnea. Isnt that when people stop breathing in their sleep for a while? Anyways if you are asleep, how could you remind yourself to breathe?

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea this year after doing a sleep study in February & wear a full c-pap mask at night to keep my oxygen level up. I see my sleep doctor & they keep track of your sleeping at home through the machine you use. It took me a couple of weeks to get use to it & not a problem. Hope you find out what is causing you to stop breathing.❤️🙏
