Okay, so I was just wondering if anyone knows how doctors rule out any underlying medical issues and just say that it’s anxiety? I need to stop googling symptoms because then my brain gives me the worst case scenario. I start thinking “Maybe it’s a brain tumor, or lung cancer, or breast cancer, or vertigo, or a blood clot, maybe it’s heart failure, maybe it’s diabetes,.” Etc. I’m driving myself insane at 19 years old... how lovely. Maybe this is a stupid question, but I’m just curious. If they did a blood test, urine test, ekg, and a chest X-ray can wouldn’t they know if something serious was going on? I don’t have medical insurance, so my anxiety tells me that they’re just pushing me to the side because I can’t pay them for their hard work.

If there was something seriously wrong then yes more than likely something would be picked up.
I have had a cough for almost all this year (I do have asthma but GP doesn’t think it’s due to my asthma) however X-ray CT scan are clear, heart scan clear. So I still have a cough and no answer more than likely allergies to something in my house.
I also haven’t been feeling well for a while but most of my blood work is ok (a few things have been out dr isn’t concerned about or had them fixed like low potassium, low iron etc) but I still feel sick. Dr says anxiety, I say yeah right lol but the anxiety definitely makes things more exaggerated.
I think the thing with heath anxiety is we take one small symptom , say pain in the leg and go straight to omg it’s a blood clot when it’s probably just a strained muscle. Or with my cough after I had it a while I was sure it was going to be more sinister.
What’s your symptoms.
Lightheaded, dizzy, fatigue, nausea, fast heart rate, hearts palps, shakiness, a little headache every now and then, feel like I cant breathe every now and then, body aches, etc. dr told me it’s just my anxiety, and I’m sure that’s the case but deep down I feel like it’s something serious but that’s probably just me being a hypochondriac.
Anxiety is very tricky. I find a general rule of thumb is that if you can distract yourself for a while and the sensation/pain/discomfort goes away it must likely is your anxiety. I am not a doctor and I still encourage you to get the proper yearly tests, but if you are for the most part healthy and tend to over think a symptom it is medical anxiety. Take a deep breathe, go for a walk, distract your mind and see if you just feel a little better. DONT GOOGLE. That will get you into trouble there is a symptom for every major illness out there and you will think you have them all. I hope this helps a bit. Anxiety will probably be with you most of your life in some form and you have to learn to manage it and accept it.
Good advice!!!!! I ran to DR. GOOGLE and thought Google knew more. Messed me up I ran with everything I read. Of course made everything worse. A good friend of mine asked me a question. " did they close medical schools" I laughed and said no. As I learned WE all have symptoms to everything. I had my routine physical with my doctor. The other day.... Listening to my heart lungs stomach caroid I had to tell myself he would have heard or seen something. Gotta go for my routine labs so will see.
That is very true. I always run to google or just automatically assume that I’m dying. If I have a random body ache I’ll sit and sit and think about it, but I notice once I accept that it might just be a body pain, a tense muscle, etc then I just relax and go about my day and it tends to go away.
exactly! Its amazing how the mind can make us think we have a tumor or cancer. I have health anxiety in general so I need to do this when I overthink a pain or unusual feeling. I sometimes drink some water, go for a walk or find something fun to do . If it goes away that makes me wonder if it really was anything. With that being said, you should have regular checkups with your doctor, but dont over do it. Ironically I was a once year visitor to my doctor. This year I have seen my doctor almost 4 times because they want you to visit with them. I am fine just some heart monitoring, but it all worked out just fine. I am glad I did it because it put that to rest.
That’s what makes my health anxiety even worse because I do not have health insurance to make doctor appointments.
Hey destinymichelle. Regardless of medical insurance or costs, doctors are required to rule out any emergent diseases. The reason why they aren’t doing extensive testing is because you’re young. I work in an ER and something doctors often discuss are probability scores or like how likely a patient is to have a certain disease. This is based off of your age, family’s medical history and your personal past medical history. My family has a significant history of blood clots so if I go in with symptoms of a blood clot they’ll consider my probability score to be higher than the person who has no family or personal history of blood clots. That may result in more extensive testing for me than the average person.
So essentially they will only do extensive testing if you’re in the age risk, have a significant family history of an acute or terminal disease, and if you have any past medical history that puts you at risk. A lot of the time, our symptoms, as serious seeming as they are, are due to anxiety and they’d rather diagnose you with anxiety then put you at risk for radiation exposure and expensive testing if they don’t see anything alarming.
The tests they did will rule out anything serious and give doctors an idea if you have any infections. I think you’re good.
My advice would be to find out some family history. That way, when you go see a doctor or go to the ER you can let them know and then they can better treat you for anything acute.

as I was reading that that helped me out a lot. When all this first happened within the first three days I went to my primary care doctor the eye specialists they said everything looked fine. Instead of trusting that a month-and-a-half later I went to a neurologist. That was a month into going on Doctor Google so I had to fear God written all over my face. From day one to the month later things were slowly getting better but still there and let me remind you at this point I didn't tell the doctors everything. So the neurologist decided they were going to treat me aggressively they did an MRI and an MRA everything was normal well the MRI showed and Scar Tissue. That costed me a lot of money due to insurance but at that appointment she said everything was in my neck my neck was really bad then after that she wanted to do an MRI of my neck and all these other tests and I'd be in an MRI for 2 and 1/2 hours at the end of the day my primary care doctor and my chiropractor and my physical therapist what kind of pissed because they all felt they didn't need that. Then 7 months later I went to an ENT and ran to the dentist due to lingual tonsil circumvallate papillae as I now know it's called dentist said everything was fine and he said everything was fine. Cuz I was told I could have be from dry mouth stress anxiety affects our body in many different ways
And the other day at my routine physical with my primary care doctor he was very thorough checked everything have no concern. Going to have routine blood work and I'm still fighting that I have to trust them
I’m so glad my reply helped you! Trusting doctors is the most difficult thing to do with anxiety. I swear the more testing I have done the less I trust my doctors. It’s a crazy thing. I just remind myself they went through YEARS of training so they know what they’re doing and I have to trust that. I also just trust that God has me and will protect me and that helps the most.
I’m surprised the neurologist had you go through so many MRI’s! But I’m guessing they did it because they thought it was necessary. I’m glad all the testing has turned out ok !

Like I've been told..... That we know they didn't shut down medical schools. I'm they type of person holistic medicine meets western. I do believe some doctors will send you for unnecessary testing. My doctor felt for the neurologist to send me for all the other MRIs wasn't needed. After the two that was it for me on the MRIs. I work in a cardiologist office so I've learned a lot too. Also amazing my co workers who have anxiety.
