So I have been dizzy and off balance everyday for 8 years now told all from Anxiety! Many tests have been performed and clear!

The past 2 weeks my dizzyness has reached a new high where I can hardly walk also new symptom my legs are burning and get so tight walking more than a few steps I physically can’t walk, been to docs this morning blood tests all clear AGAIN and says it’s Tension in my legs causing them to feel like this! Can anyone relate? I also have many other horrible daily symptoms that they say are severe Anxiety, can’t take meds have tried that 😫 x

I have tension in my legs not the top but from the knee down to ankles, but not when I’m walking so much usually when I’m sitting or lying down after an off day

I have not done much last 2 weeks as so dizzy so think now as soon as I stand up the muscles tense up 😳

Do you have the resources to get a massage? I used to get terrible tension headaches when I was stressed so started going once a month. What a difference!

It's also a self-care activity that can help with anxiety in general. If you can't afford it from a professional you can probably find instructional videos for massage and borrow a partner or family member to do it.

I'm 34 and my dad still asks me to do his back and shoulders occasionally (I took a 60 minute training session in grade 8 but was even doing it for family members from age 10). You'd be surprised how much it helps in general just for being comforting when stressed.

Hi I have massages regularly on my back and shoulders which helps with the horrible tension I also have there, This is just so scary I really can’t walk more than a few steps!!!

Have someone do your legs.

Also, something a yoga instructor told me was when anxious, we tense our legs a lot for fight or flight. Stretching the backs of the legs helps. Sit on the floor and with legs straight, lean towards your toes until you feel a GENTLE stretch and hold for a count of at least 20 seconds. It takes a minimum of 10 seconds for the muscle to recognize the stretch and another 10 to get the full benefit. Lean back and relax for 10 seconds then repeat.

If you can, do calf stretches against a wall too (plant one foot with toes a couple of inches off the floor against the wall while weight bearing with the other leg. Lean into the wall until you feel a stretch in the forward leg...you'll feel it in your calf).

Anxiety can create lots of tension in the legs which can bleed into hip and back pain too. These exercises should be doable even with dizziness issues because you're using either the wall or floor for stability. And even if they don't help, they certainly won't hurt!

I'm sorry to hear this is happening for you. I have read a lot of books as I suffer from health anxiety and a fear of being dizzy. It comes down to no control. The more we focus on something the bigger it becomes. Have you ever wanted to buy a new red car or something and all of a sudden you notice red cars everywhere? I pre-empt myself to being dizzy and then I get dizzy. It's an awful cycle. But with understanding you can regain power over it. Trust that this too shall pass

My problem is I just can’t accept anxiety would make me this ill every minute of everyday for so long, I did start to get better last year but since Christmas it’s all been building again and now I’m worse than ever 🙁

Yep... exactly. Couldn't be anxiety at all, I believe the same thing. I have CBT with a psych which does help. If you have had tests done and they can't find anything, it's hard to say what else it could be. I tell myself... something more would surely raise its ugly head by now. If we were able to have a test result come back and say YES you suffer from anxiety, panic disorder etc. It would reassure us.

Do you get the leg symptoms?

Omt osteopathic..that's your answer

Iv been feeling dizzy and heavy in the head neurologist called it tension headaches.

So one time I ran into the urgent care for this reason I thought something really bad was going on, and so the doctor who had saw me so happen to be a osteopathic doctor. She said come see me schedule an apointment. I kind of thought twice about it for a few months until I thought nothing else seems to be working leys see what she can do. And so I saw her she did her thing and let me tell you for about two weeks the tension and dizziness had really kind of disappeared.. then slowly came back. But she said to keep coming back for more sessions so I will go back. I cant say it'll work on anyone but I would give it a chance because it does wonders . I hope you find a cure if not a better way to cope with life. Times is hard especially what all of us are going through but I think the main goal is to all stay alive so we gotta continue to fight..

God bless you

Don't know about the legs, but sounds like you've got vertigo. I also have it and all tests cleared as well. Vertigo can be managed to an extent. When it gets bad, I take motion sickness medication.

Hi Mango6,

I get similar feelings to you.

I feel off balance, a sort of swaying, makes me feel a little sick sometimes.

But I also have a lot of tension in my back, which is where I think it stems from.

My legs have a burning feeling also, I notice that my buttocks are sore, they feel bruised like I have been kicked by a horse, this in turn I think affects my legs. As when I walk they feel stiff and strange, and that freaks me out.

Like you I have had many tests and scans, all normal... So I must be doing this to myself.

What Demeter1975 says about the focusing and seeing more red cars is actually true, I've never thought about it that way before.

All this tension, and freaking out causes me stomach problems too, but then how can your digestion work if you are in a permanent state of worry.

It's strange how we can talk about this and work out why we feel like this, but it still won't go away.

I fear it happening again all the time, I suppose it's that d classic "fear of the fear"

I wish you well

I get that weird stiff feeling in my legs Jen, and the muscles sometimes really tense up in my back and it feels like I’ve done a 60 mile hike up a hill. It doesn’t stop me walking but it is uncomfortable.

Hi Sam,

The feeling in my legs weak, stiff, rubbery, makes me feel like they'll give way and that makes me panic a bit and feel wobbly.

I've been a bit quiet as been away yo Womad festival for four days. I had a few moments there too, but overall I enjoyed it.

Hope you are coping OK xx

Yes it’s a horrible feeling isn’t it, but then what is nice about any of it. Glad you went away though and enjoyed it. I’m

doing ok, like you I get some moments. I’m doing ok had some good days, then nausea for first time in ages this morning and that’s when I feel panicky, ridiculous isn’t it

Sam xx

Thankyou I also have the stomach issues. I have severe tension in by back, chest and shoulders which is killing me today, is your dizzyness 24/7 I can’t even function at home at the moment. Feel so bad as my son is on school holidays and we can’t go out 😢

Funkyfaerie profile image

Oh that's horrible, you must feel guilty because you can't take him out. I have young grandchildren and they stay, and I have forced myself to take them to the park, and believe me that's even harder as they are not mine, so I am more anxious about keeping them safe.

But I take them, and yes I sometimes feel a bit dizzy... But I have always been ok. It doesn't mean I feel great when I'm out cos I don't, but nothing bad has ever happened.

No I don't feel dizzy 24/7, but it's there most days, for me it's more of the unbalanced thing, I'm convinced it's tight neck and back muscles. I've been thinking about having a regular massage, but then it's money all the time.

It's nothing medical, Ive had all the tests, it must just be me and tension, won't let go, can't let go....
