Escitalopram/ Lexapro-5 weeks in!

After a pretty rough first 2 weeks of side effects ( I nearly gave up after a week!) I thought I’d let people know that I’m really feeling good with no side effects. Sleeping so much better, no waking up with nightmares (haven’t had any since day 1) to the extent that I have decided that I am needing to set my alarm clock as slept for 8 hours last night and was late for work!!

The little irritations that were previously really becoming overwhelming and making me unnecessarily angry have pretty much gone so I’m no longer ‘sweating the small stuff’. I take the meds (10 mgs) at lunch which seems to be good for me and I’m no longer waking up with that horrible feeling of dread.

Overall the meds seem to be good for me but it has definitely taken a good month before I started feeling comfortable and relaxed that the meds are of benefit.

I don’t think there is enough warning given by GPs (certainly in the UK) that you’ll feel worse before you get better! Just my take on my experience. I hope it helps 😊

Hardly any docs anywhere will warn you about side effects when going on SSRIs. Neither will they tell you how bad side effects can be when you quit. Everythingin between is pure bliss. Soon you will start to feel on top. You will be attempted to make adventurous decisions that you probably would never have made before. You will love everything about ... everything. It will probably even get euphoric for you. Good luck.☺

I'm happy you stuck with it! Ive been taking Lexapro for a little under a year and have really liked it. When I first started I felt great, and hit a pretty low point with lots of unexpected emotions. It sucked but once I leveled out I've been great. I hope it continues to work for you!!

Hi poisonepple

Yes I felt (and still do a bit) a little fluttering in my chest. I think it’s still the anxiety but it could be the meds. Each day I am improving in the main with slight morning anxiety/butterflies still occurring. Keep me posted! 😊 xx

Hi thanks for the encouragement. I am hoping my condition will soon be over. I think my body has already got adjusted with this meds. Praying though that the relief comes next. I was having chest tightness/ heaviness day in day out. I wish to get cured of thus.

Hi

I am so pleased you are feeling better. It is such an encouraging message to others who want to start but are nervous about it.

I am sure you will go from strength to strength but do not be put off if you get unusual symptoms cropping up, they stay awhile then go in my experience.

I agree doctors do not warn you enough. With anxiety they know that you could so easily over worry and make things worse for yourself or never start at all.

Very best wishes

Kim

Thank you! I think it’s important to share. If it wasn’t for this group, I would certainly given up after the first few days as I certainly felt rubbish! The encouragement to keep going was such a help.

😊
