I have been experiencing mouth breathing for a while and I want to know how to reverse it. It is preventing me from getting any sleep. I also have dry mouth. And, when I do try to breathe in and out normally, I get an anxiety attack. Any tips from anyone that has had this issue but overcame it? How long did it take you to overcome it and what methods did you use?

Yeah, I snore occasionally so I tried a few things. There are braces for your face that will promote use of the nasal breathing variety. They aren't so stiff where you cannot open your mouth, but it will keep your jaw from opening to breathe in that fashion. This is more for the sleep apnea area, but I think it would help your case. They're fairly cheap on Amazon. Do you have nasal congestion or anything that might make nasal breathing uncomfortable or difficult? Do you take any medications that worsen the dry mouth? Many sleep meds cause this. Have you tried using a humidifier to help the nasal passages/provide moisture in the air? The brace would help I think as would seeing if different types of pillows provide any answers....or how you sleep: the sides, back, or stomach. I've awoken a few times anxious due to cooler air having irritated my throat. Being an asthmatic, I thought I was having an asthma episode despite having it under control generally. It may not be a bad idea to get a sleep study as sleeping issues have a strong correlation with anxiety and depression. Hope any of this helped and that you find some good answers.
I have had sleep issues for years. I am fit but got sleep apnea. I use a mouth guard so I don't have the sleep apnea and it dries my mouth. Get a cool mist humidifier...the soft background of the humidifier is relaxing as well. I don't understand why you are not sleeping just because you are a mouth breather. If you wake up tired, then you might have sleep apnea. But I was a mouth breather and so is husband and it alone does NOT prevent one from getting a good night's sleep. I downloaded an app called sleep something or another and you it will record your "sleep pattern" i.e. when you move or such. Also I woke up very tired and with headaches and feeling like I had run a marathon overnight and that is an indication of sleep apnea. Oh yeh, look up on the internet a "pillow wedge", which is an angled foam block that helps with snoring or helps with very mild sleep apnea. But, again, if you are waking up tired, you need to get a sleep study. If it is because you snore specifically and is bothering someone else, there are solutions there. But most people dont suffer from sleep deficiency by just mouth breathing.....
Thank you for the advice. I meant it was preventing me from getting sleep because I panic prior to trying to fully sleep not because I was really deficient in it. But these are awesome methods and I’m excited to try some out
