Hi Lauren85 my dry mouth is horrible year round but even worse in the winter if that's even possible. Medications play into dryness as well as mouth breathing that most of us do when anxious. It's very important to keep the mouth moist because it has a big impact on our teeth in being dry. I use Biotene toothpaste, mouthwash which even comes in a spray. Recommended by my dentist to protect the teeth.

It is more than annoying I know. xx

All year round oh god that must drove u insane also, my anxiety has been pretty bad today so maybe that’s why my mouth is so dry just a pain.

I didn’t know that about the teeth? That’s interesting x

Hi Lauren,

Dry mouth has a medical name Xerostomia.

The condition can occur when the glands in the mouth that make saliva are not working properly. Some common causes include nervousness, stress, any of about 600 medications, aging, cancer therapy (radiation/chemotherapy), and autoimmune disorders like Sjorgren's syndrome, smoking and methamphetamine use.

I agree with Agora1 the most likely cause is our medication side effect.

WebMD has a good article about this

Mine began after I started taking antidepressants! It's the worst at night because I breath through my mouth when I sleep. I wake up and when I move my mouth it feels like my tongue is cracking because it's so dry. The only thing I've found that helps me is Oasis dry mouth spray in the morning and swishing coconut oil around in my mouth for 10 to 15 minutes before bed. It really keeps my mouth moistened most of the night and no artificial sweeteners in it like with the other dry mouth products. (I have to stay away from artificial sweeteners because I've found it makes some heart issues I have worsen and causes my joints to be inflamed.)

Hi Lauren, I get bouts of anxiety/ depression about twice a year that last for 6 weeks, Luckily rest of time I am ok. My mouth goes so dry, my speech changes. I lose my appetite, don’t want to mix with friends. Also dead tired. If you go on No More Anxiety on Internet it’s very helpful. I listen to Mindfullness to clear my mind of negative thoughts, you can find lots of them on Utube.

Take care and look after yourself from Lin x
