Worried to death

For the past couple weeks I have been spitting out at most a teaspoon of blood every few hour throughout the day and in the morning when I wake up. I went to the ER about a week ago and the doc there claims my lungs were fine after they did an XRAY of my chest and sent me home with no medicine. Then I made an appointment with a local free/low cost clinic and the NP there claimed she looked at my XRAY and my lungs were fine and I just had post nasal drip. She prescribed me some allergy pills and said I would be fine but Im still spitting out blood when I pull spit from the back of my throat. Does anybody have any idea what this could be??????

I’m sorry you are experiencing this. I’ve never had anything similar but it would definitely freak me out as well. You got an X-ray done which is good and reassuring. You went to two different doctors and both said the same, the tests show nothing sinister. How long have you been taking allergy pills? Maybe you need to wait till they start working?

I really don’t know what to say here but I really want to help you. At the moment, you have done everything you could have done, therefore, try to breathe and calm your anxiety. Then, if it continues you can pursue it further

Hi Jay. I'm sorry I can't really help other than to say I used to have a coworker with postnatal drip and every few minutes she had to breathe in sharply to clear it, but she never coughed up blood as a result of it. Have you checked the full list of symptoms related to post nasal drip? The good thing though is the ER doc assessed you and deemed you to be ok. I'd say keep on the allergy meds for a while and see what happens. If it persists I'd go back to your regular doctor to see what's going on. By the way, any chance it could be a dental issue? Or nose bleed dripping to your throat? Is the air really dry where you are?? Have you examined your mouth really well in the mirror for any small source of bleeding? Just a thought ☺️

No it is not a dental issue and I have tried to use a mirror to examine my mouth and the back of my throat but I do not see where the blood is coming from. I live in North Carolina and no the air isnt really dry here. Anyway, I have been taking the pills but they aren't helping that much because I am still spitting out blood. I feel I need to see a different doctor. I need to find a doctor who actually cares about people and am praying that I will be okay until I get back in to see one.

Ugh...so sorry this didn't settle down for you. The worst part is now waiting to see another doctor when you don't even know which specialty to see. Probably a respiroligist would be my guess. What if you go back to the ER and get examined again?

Two doctors tell you it's a minor issue, nothing serious. That's what it could be and almost certainly is. Rest easy and be well.
