Anxiety attacks and residual feelings

I have been feeling really good and almost like myself the last several days. Successfully made it through an out of town business meeting 3 hours away, enjoyed a retirement party at the park with our team members, and rode the train back by myself. My birthday is Monday and last night my boyfriend asked me what I would like and what I would like to do. Then it happened, this morning as I was driving on the freeway to work, out of nowhere, a full blown anxiety attack that lasted about 20 minutes.

Does anyone else have residual symptoms even after the attack is over? It was over 2 hours ago and I'm really tired, stomach a bit uneasy and feel the slight full body "vibrating" feeling. I did the "acceptance and floating" thing that Claire Weeks talked about and that helped.

Adrenaline doesn't disappear into thin air. It is produced by many other things and although you survive the anxiety, panic or whatever things like adrenaline Is still floating around and you will feel it. Tell yourself that is what it is. Imagine it was like tripping over a kerb. It takes 5 seconds but for a long time afterwards your body will remind you of it but because you knew what that was it doesn't bother you and it will go. That is the way adrenaline is, it is just checking along with other things that you are safe. It is working automatically but just as a child might fret for a long time about what seems like little to us so does our body. A few push ups can help or jumping on the spot, quick run, waving your arms around might help too as it burn the adrenaline. If waving your arms around is not a good idea stuck in a tube train clenching and then slowly unclenching your arms is less noticeable but has the same effect. Well done with the Claire Weekes 'floating'. Face, accept, float and let time pass. It is more about taking the mind off what is happening but, yes, it does work. Some do the Serenity prayer, again and again and again or bring yourself back to your breathing, and back to it each time you are distracted by fear. Well done.
