Anxious after working out?

Hello

I don’t know if it’s anxiety or what but almost every time after I work out I feel off. I wouldn’t say it’s a lightheaded feeling but I just feel a little dizzy and my head feels full if that makes sense.

Also yes I eat about half an hour before I workout and drink a lot of water. When I’m working out most of the time I am fine.

But yeah idk does anyone else ever feel this way?

I can’t workout because of anxiety. Every time I exercise I convince myself my heart is beating funny, my chest hurts, I feel lightheaded etc etc and it freaks me out and makes me stop. I would love to get over this fear because I know exercise is great for anxiety but I just don’t know where to start!

Do you be nervous after exercising or worrying about any in particular?

Yes, that it anxiety. Actually a huge number of people are convinced they are going to die when they exercise! Depends what you are doing, depends why you are doing it too. If you go into the gym you don't actually have to do anything at all. You can sit on the mats and stretch. No one will be any the wiser, stretching is very important, expecially if you suffer form anxiety as the brain has a habit of doing what it wants and the body does what we have learned to do over years of learning. So you just teach yourself to stretch properly, chat to the person next to you, or watch what they are doing. If something looks interesting ask them how they do that or try when they leave. That way your body will become more stable and your mind will understand it is not under threat and then you can try a few of the lightest weights to teach you mind they wont kill you and that you are safe. Our body and brains are like children in a gym and we need to teach them like that sometimes. 5 minutes on the bike? Well maybe, I can't do it slowly it teaches each muscle exactly what it should be doing and where you are feeling slight tensions that need stretching or taking notice of. Turn your thoughts upside down re exercise. Feel odd? Your eyes widen when people are stressed, it is difficult to see, you are not a cave man so you don't run from the tiger but your head is not focused and you feel odd. So sit down. Who cares. In the class, in the gym, you have control.

Thanks for that reply, it’s very reassuring x

Try eating 1-2 hours before, also don't overdo the water, take sips of it don't take mouthfuls.

nicolen, one of the ways of helping reduce that post exercise feeling is by making sure you do a ten minute cool down once you stop exercising. Also hydrating to flush out

lactic acid from your muscles can help. Slowing down will allow your blood pressure to re-stabilize to a more relaxing state.

Always make sure your doctor is aware of your exercising as well as how you are feeling. Hope this helps some. :) xx

One thing we forget Is that when our anxiety gets higher so does the adrenaline and all the other links in our bodies that provide us with a flight/fight or freeze situation to protect us. That means little around us is in a normal state and all our energy is aimed at doing something and drawing everything from our internals to save us. As we know despite out feelings that we are probably not going to die we don't do any of those things but our whole body is in a very odd state and on top of that our glucose levels from liver and other places are depleted. We shake, we feel unworldly, we need to go to the toilet, our limbs feel odd, we don't want to jump and run we want to lie down and feel normal. You can buy glucose tablets which can be helpful as it is quick energy and replacement for most of what replaces us and it fools the body into thinking the adrenaline has stopped pulsing so it may help one feel normal in a matter of minutes. Our body wont feel normal but we then have more control and I have found them very useful a lot of times.
