Breathe Miss-P74 Please don't let the title of the book put you into more anxiety. Whatever you get by Dr Claire Weekes is the right one. I have the one you ordered as well as many others on the forum. You can't go wrong in anything that was written by her. I am understand that the same book has a different title in the UK. There might have been reprints but the contents is still basically the same. You can win over anxiety and you can go forward through ACCEPTANCE... Accepting that anxiety is a form of a mind game that it plays with us. Once we learn to ignore the negative thoughts it is sending us, we can and will go forward in life.
Breathe Miss-P74 and start reading her wonderful book which will guide you to a more calmer place. We are here to support you. You're never alone. xx
As I am new to the Author and really want some help in accepting the anxiety as a way forward to recovery, I just wanted to make sure. It’s been a very hard 22 years.
I thank you kindly for your promt response, as soon as I am home from work. I shall read.
Thank you for your words of never alone. That also means a lot 🌈⭐️
Miss-P74, I would say without doubt the most important book of Claire Weekes' is the one you have, the first one she wrote, in which she sets out for the first time her acceptance method for relief and recovery from anxiety disorder in all its forms. (Just to complicate matters in the U.S. the same book is titled 'Hope and help for your nerves').
The book was written a long time ago and many of the social situations and gender roles she mentions are outdated but the acceptance method itself is timeless.
Of course, just reading the book won't cure anybody, you have to practice acceptance (for the time being) persistantly before your over sensitised nervous system recovers.
I hope the book brings you life long benefit as it has for me.
Thank you Jeff1943. Was hoping to so am to you again. I wanted to ask about acceptance. I try not to feel anything and allow the anxiety to be there and not fight it as read on here. To allow the thoughts and feeling to just come. I’m not sure I’m doing it right. It’s frightening feeling as so used to the rituals of fighting it with distractions and other thoughts, I’m trying and hoping the book will also help. Had quite a crap day today with anxiety and intrusive thoughts on way home from work. I say to myself just allow it and also say “anxiety I’m not afraid of you” quite often but again not sure I’m doing it right!
Acceptance is a state of mind that can take time to achieve. It doesn't give instant results. You have to cultivate an attitude where eventually you don't care too much that your symptoms are playing up - because you now know that by not caring you are going to recover. That's the thing, to stop caring about whatever symptoms trouble you.
Thank you Jeff1943. You have explained it very well for me.
I’ve been in the habit of panic for as long as I can remember and I am (please believe me) sick to death of this ruling my life and being so stuck in a rut with it all it’s become normal. I want to recover I am done with it now. That’s why I’m here, asking questions, Buying the book (Dr Claire weeeks) and hoping my life becomes normal again. Being the person I was. Or better. 🙏🏻
They say that which does not destroy us makes us stronger. Claire Weekes explains these things, like how to cultivate acceptance in the face of discomfort, much better than I could ever hope to.
Hi , sounds like the one I have , it’s amazing ( if some of it’s parts are a bit old fashioned) take from it the bits you can relate too, it’s all about acceptance, but I particularly had great interest in symptoms and how they manifest and trap you into the fear cycle.. enjoy
