Hi everyone. I am new to the group. I never used to have difficulty controlling my anxiety but ever since I had my son and started my new career it's been getting out of hand. More so my anxiety tends to manifest as anger that is getting so much harder to control. My trigger comes from lack of control. Any time plans change last minute or if we are running late it gets me going. On top of all this my son (3) is on the border of being diagnosed with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Sticking to a routine is key for him and helps me a lot as well but with the ODD and ADHD he is very very prone to resisting schedule and time restrictions. Keeping my cool is necessary for my son to thrive and I can't keep it together all the time! I feel like I'm drowning.

It sounds like you have made some major changes. New job, baby and then this diagnosis that you have no control over. It’s no wonder you are upset. That would be hard for anyone. It’s good for everyone to have schedules. You just have to set and schedule that allows for unplanned situations or a little give and take. It’s not reasonable to think that things won’t fluctuate in life. Just do the best you can and try to cut your self a little slack. I’m sorry you’re going through so much. I’m extremely OCD and know how frustrating that can be on someone. Have you ever tried meditation? Deep breathing can also be very helpful. Just remember you can get more bees with honey. Try counting before you respond. Your frustration is understandable though.
Thank you. I need to work on breathing. I'm some sort of an enigma. I'm a nurse and I'm against some meds. The meds for anxiety are habit forming and knowing how it effects the body long term just makes me more anxious about taking them. I do have some Xanax that I take in emergencies. Had to take one the other night as i could feel a panic attack coming on. I just need more techniques for self help without medication.
Hi Fiercemama130, You are in luck in that there are a lot of different modalities that can be used to help you with anxiety w/o resorting to medication. I had anxiety for many years before finding what truly works for me. During that time, I did try everything that was said to work on anxiety. Relaxation tapes, Biofeedback, Self-Hypnosis, Meditation, DeepBreathing, Visualization, Affirmations, Acupuncture, Masssage, Tai Chi, Reiki, Muscle Tense & Release, Water Aerobics, CBT and finally using Acceptance to Anxiety which became my basis in going forward. (Of course talk therapy)
My Accepting anxiety comes from the book "Hope & Help for your Nerves" by Dr. Claire Weekes. Learn everything you can about the Mind/Body Connection. What you believe is what you will get. Change Negative thoughts to Positive ones. Never stay stuck, always go forward one step at a time will still get you to your goal, anxiety free.
Using YouTube to guide your through many of the techniques I mentioned. Use the forum for the support and understanding you need. There is strength in number. I wish you the best xx
Thank you so much! I don't understand how this is different. I have had bipolar 2 also called hypomanic disorder where I stay more in the depressed cycle than the manic. I've had that for about 13 years now and was on meds for 9 months total. I learned to control that so well no one knows about it unless I tell them. I don't get why this is so different!? The same techniques I used for that don't help with anxiety. It's like something takes over and freezes my mind from telling me to calm down. Like it happens too late. I flash anger so quickly I rarely get any clues it's coming unless it's my son pushing my buttons. But reasoning with a 3 year old about giving mommy some time is impossible. I don't know why I cant recognize it quicker.
