Hi I've not written on here before but I just need a little support at the moment. You think you have anxiety under control then Xmas comes along with all it's stresses and you feel anxiety overwhelming you. I just had to get away from everyone to try and calm down. I know you're meant to sit with it but after so long it gets very tiring. Sorry to be so negative at this time of year but I just needed a little support

Kat334, you are not alone in feeling the stress of the holidays. It's a shame that it ends up being like that every year. I blame it on the media. We are bombarded with commercials showing families and friends and togetherness. It builds up our expectation of what it should be like. And then there's the countdown...that alone would make anyone anxious. You're not being negative, you are being realistic. This is what it's like BUT...I'm glad you used some time to escape for a while to try and calm down. I too used some videos on YouTube and listened to quiet, calming affirmations and peaceful thoughts. It's okay to do that. It's a part of our anxiety disorder that at times requires some "me" time. You did the right thing. xx

You're not alone. I was fortunate to have a couple of days off and today is my first day back. I feel like I could use a whole month just to recover from the holidays. It's not negative. Statistically, the holidays are the most stressful time of the year. You're doing just fine. Just being you. Now that the holidays are winding down, try and take time for yourself even if it's for half an hour to meditate or take a warm bath. Anxiety sufferers often take care of others above themselves but now if your time.
