I'm starting to have a lot of anxiety again... wondering if it's the green tea. I've been drinking it for maybe 2 weeks now. I read it's supposed to help. I'm also taking the xifaxan. I'm just feeling really anxious and depressed again. It's so annoying.

Green Tea
Tanae, Green Tea has more caffeine in it that most teas. It could very well be causing it.
Also for people on Warfarin blood thinners, green tea is not good because it makes the blood too thin. Just might be what causing the anxiousness. Give it a try by stopping it for a while and flushing your body with water. Hope you feel better. x
damn I've been drinking green tea almost everyday for like 2 months now. so my anxiety won't even let me maintain healthy habits?? I'm very salty right now.
lilsaddude, don't go by me. Everyone is different in how they respond to food and drinks. I just happen to be sensitive to caffeine in coffee or tea but not to chocolate. Goes down easy and makes me happy. Maybe that's the difference
yeah you're right. I continued reading and someone else mentioned that while tea does have caffeine that could influence my anxiety, it doesn't have as much as coffee. however , no matter what I consume, its all mental before anything else.
Hi Tanae,
Coffee contains quite a bit of caffeine, which can leave you feeling jittery, anxious and exhausted by the end of the day. Green tea also contains caffeine but in much smaller amounts
Green Tea is a good source of an amino acid L-theanine which provides strong calming effects and can be used to combat anxiety and stress and relaxes your mind and body.
By definition, it's not the tea causing the increase in your anxiety - it's your mind playing another trick, thinking that since this a something new it's the cause.
Remember the CBT Therapy Model - which is Trigger-Think-Feel-Do.
These thoughts, feelings, behaviours and physical sensations interact and influence each other and ultimately impact on our quality of life.
One of these is causing your increase in anxiety.
If you have not tried CBT with a therapist, it's definitely worth considering
Thank You for the break down. It makes since. I'm probably obsessing in my mind and its causing anxiety. I'm currently seeing a CBT therapist.
Very good response, blackcat, I'm an advocat of green tea and I find it helps with first thing in the morning anxiety, but many have tried it and found it didn't help. I find it only works as a brewed tea, the green tea extract tablets and L-theanine tablets don't work for me. I started a posting on green tea recently but only 2 people replied, both negative.
Hi Jeff1943, I want to clarify one thing and that is I like Green Tea, it's the fact that I'm on Warfarin that I don't drink it because it tends to thin the blood as well.
As for those sensitive to caffeine, they do make Decaffeinated Green Tea with still the same beneficial properties.
I must admit, Agora1, I don't actually like the taste of green tea or rather I'm neutral but I've managed to convince myself it's helpful.
I almost ended up on warfarin recently, they thought I might have a deep vein thrombosis in my left leg but it turned out to be something called a ruptured Bakers Cyst. I told them I didn't fancy warfarin because of all the blood tests and they admitted there's a new alternative to warfarin that doesn't involve the restrictions but I didn't catch the name of it.
Garlic also thins the blood of course, my cousin is a pharmacist at a private hospital and they had a patient who they couldn't stop the bleeding during an op and she died. They'd asked her if she took any over the counter supplements and she'd told them No. At the enquiry her husband admitted she took garlic supplements but she hadn't bought them over the counter - she'd bought them mail order!
Have you checked your magnesium levels? Good luck!
