I keep worrying about absolutely everything since I took a severe panic attack during the night, but that was 4yrs ago and ever since I am plagued with excessive worry until my head feels like it will burst and I feel panicky and exhausted...I have been told this may be GAD...Does any meds help?

Hi Aspergirl47, medications can help but once anxiety becomes chronic after 4years, it is best treated through therapy as well as finding other methods to reduce your anxiety and stress levels. Dr. Claire Weekes book on "Hope & Help for your Nerves" goes into acceptance of anxiety as a proven way to get back on the right path. When anxiety has been around for a while it never really goes away completely.. It just stays in this dormant or free floating anxiety which is then called GAD. By looking for other techniques, you can literally stop the anxiety before it has a chance to build as well as eventually totally ignoring it. I would suggest looking at hypnotherapy, meditation, deep breathing and any other kind of non medication treatments out there.

Working on your anxiety is not a once in a while thing. It must be practiced every day so that you build up this tolerance to any future attacks or symptoms. Keep using the forum for the multitude of remedies out there that may help stop your GAD from going into year 5. Keep positive :) xx

What is GAD? I too have suffered from anxiety for a couple of years now, and feel I am always fighting it. I get panic attacks, severe chest tightness and stabbing pains in the night and breathlessness when I am at work.

Luckily I start a new job very soon but these symptoms exhaust me, both mentally and physically. I have never tried medication because I think you can get addicted to certain meds doctors prescribe. But does anyone think they would help?

Stay positive Aspergirl ☺ its difficult I know, but having a happy outlook on life always helps me. I believe if you want to live peaceful you must first create your own inner peace. xx

Oh I'm sorry Missing_Sunshine, GAD is Generalized Anxiety Disorder which is what most of us have. I agree in that we all need to find our own inner peace. Sometimes it takes being on medication for a short time in order to break that cycle of fear that we are caught up in.. along with therapy work hand in hand.

Once you feel more in control of your symptoms you can go on to finding that inner peace in getting back control of your life once more. The symptoms we experience are nothing short of our imagination provoked by rush of adrenaline. Once we learn how to accept that is what it is and nothing more, we can slowly eliminate anxiety from our lives.

Good Luck on starting a new job, I wish you well. Stay with the forum as continuing support. Life is Good xx

Thank u Agora1 for your comforting advice ...What I have noticed is everytime I have a severe panic attack it is usually been when my older brother has been around me...he has a history from childhood of aggression and is now believed to have Narcissistic PD...he has mentally and physically been abusive to me for no reason..I now have Ptsd along with finding out ive Aspergers...so I was probably easiest to pick on I guess!!! and yet I feel panicky if I feel abandoned, even by him...I really don't understand it....I love Buddhism so try to meditate and also try Yoga....I thought at one point I was almost anxiety free and I stopped doing all the things that ive mentioned, then the panic attacks started again after a horrible phone call from my brother....I think he has traumatised me since childhood...This forum has been so good and youre all so helpful...Hugs xx :)
