Yes... I have found if I think about it the worse it becomes too.. I have had several episodes that I catch myself trying to catch my breath I think again this all falls back to finding a way to relax yourself or distract is what I like to call it. Take yourself out of whatever situation your in when your having trouble don't run from it but distract yourself atleast this is what I have found to help me out.. good luck!!

Yes all the time difficulty swallowing. Sometimes I have to take a deep breath, think calm and swallow just to get it down. And it's times I swallow and seems like something is detached in there. I also have short of breath moments.

I have the swallowing thing. It feels like something is in my throat on the left. It scares me but i have read that it may be something called globus sensation and i reread it everytime i have it which is multiple times a day and it make me feel a lot better.

Yes. Often. It's awful. But it does pass and it's totally and completely an anxiety symptom and it won't hurt you.x

Hi MsGriffin23. I have been suffering with anxiety for nearly 40 years. It has always been worse on buses, underground and crowded places - agoraphobia and social phobia. Yes I have difficulty with breathing but at a hospital they put an o2 meter on my finger so I could see that my sats were ok - 96% at that time. That helped. What I find worse is the feeling of not being able to swallow. I am still reduced to spitting even saliva into an handkerchief and I can go hours without any fluid going down my throat which constricts it and makes it sore. Yes it is purely down to anxiety, but when you're trying to get a diazepam down, it's impossible without chewing it first and manoeuvreing it under my tongue to dissolve. Vile. I would not advise diazepam for anxiety except in extremis as it is virtually impossible to get off. For years I thought I was going mad because I found it so difficult to swallow and it took me a long time to find a forum where I found others felt the same. I agree with others who say that distraction is good along with deep breathing with your hand on your abdomen (diaphragm area) and trying to push your hand out on the inhale. Hope this helps.
